Annual Halloween Candy Rant

I am a chocoholic and although it doesn't work for Halloween, because of expense the last few years I've resorted to a candy dish on the coffee table filled with milk chocolate chips purchased at Fareway in the Family size bag or regular chips from Sam's Club. Occasionally I grab a large bag of Reese's cups from Dollar General. If you gotta have chocolate, you gotta have chocolate.

My brother still takes great pride in buying and handing out full size candy bars (although no doubt they have been downsized over time). He always send me a picture of his dining room table stacked with candy. I am like, go for it, you want to drop $500 on candy, more power to you.
I think my wife is planning on giving out full size candy bars this year. The bags of smaller bars/candies keep getting smaller and more expensive. In the past she has given out multiples of the smaller bars/candies anyway. I just don’t ask how much she spends and she doesn’t tell. She really enjoys handing out the treats to the kids.

You can buy Halloween candy on Amazon, Walmart, and Target online. They will ship it to you. Whatever you want. Hope that helps grandpa.

Still too warm to ship chocolate. It’ll melt while sitting on my porch during the day.

The grandma next door when I was a kid gave out raisins. We always had raisins at my house but the neighbor kids down the street loved them. So we would trade raisins for candy bars.

No way I’m going to hate on the advancement of Reese’s. But if you wanted to start a poll for 2nd best or hidden gem candies…

I’d put Goodbar out there. Just a solid candy. And the mini size bars are great for smores.

Just curious anyone have a Mr Beast candy bar? I had a milk chocolate one and thought it was average. Not as good as a normal
Hershey bar. I have only tried one of his candy bars though

The last few years we've given out little toys like super bounce balls, sticky hand slippers, flashing rings, whistles, Halloween themed erasers, etc. Kids love them. Plus we don't have to worry about peanut or other allergies.

I also get a kick out of hearing our whistles throughout the neighborhood all night long.

I have a variety box of full size candy bars. May grab a bag of potatoes too and have a little experiment. See which is more popular.

Depends on the type/size of candy in the bag. There are 200-piece bags for $30, but that might include the really tiny snack sized candy bars and some of the less popular stuff. Same for 150-piece and 100-piece bags.

I just get a ton of those bags of "Fun Size" Snickers, Reese's Cups, Twix, Milky Way, Butterfinger, Kit Kat, Three Muskateer, etc. They've been on sale at Hy-Vee this week for $3.99/bag.

Yeah I checked again and my CVS is just insanely stupid deal on a bag of only 60 tiny candy bars for $32.00. Even at that same overpriced drug store you could get 80 little bars of the same kinds in 4 bags for less money ($6 a bag for those).

For the first time in several decades I ate some M&Ms. Now, everyone old enough questions whether their senses have aged and if that's the reason things taste, sound, or smell differently. But, I was so dismayed about the M&Ms that I did some digging. Only to learn they changed their recipe and added more crap to increase their margins. There needs to be a movement to go back to cane sugar, dark chocolate, and fewer preservatives. Heck, I'd be ok paying a tad more if Mars created "M&Ms Classic".

We've been doing full-size the past several years, usually buy a few boxes of assorted from Costco, then supplement with fun-size packs of some non-chocolate/peanut varieties.

Something else that has been a lot of fun is adding a potato to our bowl of candy. We just put one plain potato on top of the candy before each group of kids come, you'd be shocked how many of them pick the potato over all the candy. Saw it on tiktok a few years ago, and now we're known as the 'potato house'.
