Ames Lager

As someone who hasn't drank beer from a can since probably the mid 90s I'll ask a dumb question. What is the plastic piece on top of the can? Does it just pop off and then underneath is a regular flip up opener like on a pop can or is there some crazy new beer can technology I missed?
Normal can, it’s just packaging to make it look better on the shelf.

Are you talking about the can carrier?

It's to hold the cans together as a six pack. It takes the place of the thin plastic that historically came on a 6-pack. These don't cause problems for turtles.

I got it at Lakeland Convenience Store in Ruthven (by Lost Island Lake). They had quite a bit left

I gotta be honest, I'm a little bummed out there isn't some cool new can technology going on.
Well, it kind of is. Typically made of recycled plastics and is recyclable. The old style plastic is not I don't believe. Also cheaper than the 4 pack and 6 pack cartons made out of paper.

$13.99 at West Ames Hy-Vee. They have maybe 8 to 10 6-packs left from what I saw.

Was $12.99 at Fareway in Ames. $26 for 12 is about twice what I normally spend. Will have to think hard about filling the cooler for tailgating - typically stock a lot for visitors but they may still get the Busch Lt.

So finally drinking Ames Lager and Clonefest tonight. I’ve had Clonefest before and I definitely prefer it over Ames Lager. Ames Lager has a strong finish to me, whoever said PBR is correct.

Both beers are good, but Clonefest tastes better to me personally

Very strong finish. To be honest I didn’t particularly enjoy the first one I had but it’s definitely growing on me.

First Ames Lager down, wasn’t sure on it after first drink. Definitely a grower I think as it got better and I enjoyed. A little more flavor than domestic beers like Bud or Coors, maybe between those and PBR. Overall think it will be a good drinking beer for game days. Solid job by West O.

That sounds … reassuring.

Almost a little cornflakes type flavor in there, obviously I’m a bit biased being a clone fan. It’s pretty darn solid imo and I’m not a huge lager guy, Busch light, keystone just taste watered down to me. Think this straddles a fine line of adding a bit more heft and flavor without going too far for the masses.

Do we know when the next round of distribution will be?
Will we have to wait ~6 weeks for the new tanks West O installed, or will it be sooner?
