@Pokit N, had the opportunity to visit OSU campus last yr for mbb. I really liked the way it was laid out and thought it was quite pretty. Visited Eskimo Joe's because that's what your supposed to do when visiting Stillwater. Eskimo Joe's is really similar Hickory park but a little more bar like. It was still filled with families the afternoon I was there. Enjoy your visit to Ames this fall.

Come visit our tailgate family friendly with a little drinking;). We are there early, depending on the forecast and time of game we adjust our menu accordingly. Depending on weather, I will either do a brisket, a whole pork loin. If its an early game, I will do the scrambled eggs with hash brown, my own smoked bacon or Canadian bacon. One of the guys that we tailgate with runs a brewery so he always brings different growlers with him. Casey's breakfast pizza, along with some Krispy Kreme donuts. Plenty of Jello shots and kid friendly jello shots.

If it's cold, I make a mean bacon potato cheese soup. We also do one tailgate we call "Fryday" , we just deep fry everything from cookie dough to chicken wings. Jalapeno bacon wrapped tots are the bomb. Even did Scottish eggs!

Where do you set up? Asking for a friend

Just reserved a room for Friday and Saturday at the Gateway 11/15-11/17 when Bevo and the Boys come to town.

I am really looking forward to the weather and tailgating. I will bring some Texas beer and hand out for acceptance into a Cyclone tailgate!
The last few times Texas has been in town, there's been a decent number of Texas fans that have made the trip. Always have had a good time with them.

Make sure you stop by Hickory Park and get some BBQ. Best in the Big 12.

After this gets through the 'Hickory Park is or isn't good' portion can this thread phase into the 'Des Moines is or isn't good' mode?

the wife and I plan on trying Hickory Park, but will do so for an Ames tradition rather than expecting it to overtake the Texas bbq joints.

How concerned should we be about the weather in mid November, and it likely being a night game? Please be kind in your replies knowing this is coming from a Texan.

HP is good because you get lots of food for not a lot of $; BBQ isn't that great in my opinion. Burgers are very good.

Dress warm. We had some cold ones last November. If it gets really cold and windy, get yourself a pair of bib overalls. Those things are lifesavers for cold tailgates.

Do you still wear shorts in 55-60 degree weather? If not, bring the winter coat.

That was a Nov. 23 game.

A more recent Nov. 23 night game was 8 degrees at kickoff.

My God...... it hasn’t been that cold in East Texas in 30 years.

I’ll wear shorts when it gets “cold” here, but cold here is 40.

I’ve seen bib overalls recommended, but what else can be recommended for a cold weather game?

I’ll be at the Texas LSU game and it’ll probably be 100 degrees in two weeks. It could be a 100 degree difference at kickoffs o_O

If it's under 32, the usual stuff... multiple layers of everything, waterproof/insulated footwear, hand/foot warmers. Bleachers are aluminum and the rest is concrete. If there are ice/snow remnants, your feet will probably be in/around them for the duration.

Dressing in layers is the key.

Depending on the forecast...insulated boots, warm socks, gloves, stocking cap, winter coat/hood might come in handy.

You will be allowed to bring a blanket into the stadium. (Just like your "steer clear" bag policy.)

Here is the link to game day policies.

Blanket and seat cushions help during cold dry weather.

Weather can vary greatly in the fall. It could be anywhere from sunny and in the low 50s to single digits with rain or snow. Don't trust the weather reports until the day before the game.

Loose fitting layers of clothing is the way to go. Thermal underwear and hand and feet warmers are a good base to start with. Then build up layers with a top layer that will shed wind. Bring ponchos incase it is raining.

There are heaters in the bathrooms incase you need to take a break from the cold.
