Matt Campbell is retiring from football in order to pursue a career in baseball because of a promise he made to his father.

However, he will be kidnapped by the looney toons in order to coach them in a football game against a race of aliens that have hijacked the talents of the Nick Saban's Alabama football players and used their talents to create a super team of mutant football monsters who planned to use the looney toons as attractions at their failing theme park.

Only after Matt Campbell coaches the looney toons to victory in that game thereby freeing the looney toons from captivity will he rediscover his love of coaching football. Then and only then, Matt Campbell will take the USC job and lead the Trojans back to national prominence.

What sucks so much as an ISU fan. This is probably ridiculous and wrong. But how many times have we come in and laughed at something like this and it ends up happening. I’m preconditioned to just expect horrible things to happen.

Good point.

Fred leaving for the NBA wasn’t that much of a surprise.

Chizik was a surprise but not a big loss.

Maybe people didn’t believe the Eustachy news at first?

Too young to remember Floyd leaving for the Bulls.

Seems like we’re more conditioned for in-game heartbreak.

I have this hypothetical conversation all the time with people but have never wanted to start the thread on CF because I don’t buy into majority of the BS media reports on Campbell. I will hijack this thread. If Campbell was to leave you know Pollard has a list ready so why can’t we on a darn message board.

What direction do you go? I think looking at current staff Heacock is most logical but I think with his age and no recent HC experience it’s not ideal. I have thrown on the crazy idea of Scheelhaaase on the cheap with veteran high paid experienced assistants just because I feel he is one of the most up and coming assistants in football. I have also talked about Bringing back Golesh from Tennessee.

Moving away from Campbell connections I have a bunch of thoughts but what you all think?

No Assistant Coaches! I cannot stand dealing with noobies trying to figure it out with OJT. Will kill the program unless ISU just gets extremely lucky.

I highly doubt any sitting P5 HC would leave where they are for Iowa State. Not a knock on ISU, but if they are good where they are, why leave?

So, Go to the MAC and find another up and coming HC.

I pretty much agree, but have looked very closely at the MAC and don’t think anyone is ready for the jump to the Iowa State job, because weather the national media wants to admit it or not is a damn good job.

I agree that it's a good job, and ISU can find a good sitting HC.

The reason I said the MAC is because it has always been a GREAT training ground for Coaches, and I like the Midwestern recruiting ties built in too. I have always felt this way even before ISU hired Campbell.
