I sure as heck hope CMC sticks around but even just as a casual football fan... man, what a time.

Texas and OU to the SEC.
Lincoln Riley to USC.
Kelly to LSU.

LSU, Florida and USC all come open during the season - Oklahoma soon after. Then Notre Dame. Through in Washington and VT as other decent jobs and this has been one heck of a coaching world and news season in CFB.

Candle or Heacock.

If any of the 3 were to be hired...it would be with the hopes that most of the current staff stays in Ames! But that won't happen because IF CMC accepted another job...they would give him as much money as it would take to hire the staff he wanted to hire and many of those guys work with him currently! So...if CMC departed and took most of the staff with him...would it be necessary to hire from within?

There’s no way He was USC top choice. You think Riley was their fallback? LOL. Just because media reports said that doesn’t make it true.

He was one of a handful of coaches they were targeting. If Riley had said no, Campbell would be there today getting ready for Wednesday’s press conference.

Hey, at least you don’t have to worry about any of this. Barring any legal stuff, Brian will be the next coach of your hawks

World moves fast, man

It will be interesting to see what the deal details... No idea, but if they came with a $150M contract that is fully guaranteed.. I mean, how much longer does he want to coach? that is a great retirement plan. If he wins, great! if he doesn't, great! take the money and run...

That was my point with the USC job. It would make sense to hire from within if whoever got the main job was able to keep the majority of the coaches. But if you just hire Manning and no one else, you might as well go out and get some MAC coach and roll the dice. I'm sure we'll get lucky 2 times in a row.

It'll be fine. It's his dream! We'll be happy for him as we take a big chance on another mid-major coach! Chances are it will work out just as well two times in a row!
Why are you certain Campbell is Notre Dames top choice? Also, hiring a successful mid major coach is not a bad route since hiring coordinators in the past like we always used to do didn’t work so well most of the time.

Wonder how much his chances are/were damaged by the goal comment. Fans on Twitter are roasting him for not wanting to win a conference championship...

All BS, but wonder if that could ever factor in.
Zero. ND isn't even in a conference, so not having that goal is perfectly fine.

I love CMC, and don’t want him to leave ISU, but if I’m ND, he’s probably not in my top 3 either.

ND can go and get anyone they want…. I don’t think they come after a coach that really underperformed this season, lost 2-3 games they never should have, his teams consistently shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and poor special teams, etc.

Like I said…. I’m thrilled to have CMC…. I wish he’d get a new OC, but he’s an awesome coach for ISU…. I just think ND will be shooting for something better…. that’s all.

I mean... Cincinnati? Sure, he's from Ohio so I guess there's that... but really? He's going to leave for Cincinnati on its way into the Big 12 to play Iowa State every year? Nah....
