The #5 ranked recruit in the class of 2021 has committed to Penn State (via his instagram). Iowa State was considered a frontrunner for his services, he is from the same hometown as assistant coach Brent Metcalf and former cyclone NCAA champ Jon Reader.

    Ouch, that one stings.

    I'm starting to get concerned.

We've been in the top five for a lot of good recruits, but there is no reward for 2nd place in recruiting.

Man I really thought we coulda locked him in with Metcalf. Something's gotta change for us on the recruiting side. I understand it's PSU and they have a TON of after college money but come on we gotta get going on some of these recruits.

I've been trying to stay optimistic in terms of recruiting, but this official puts me in the worried camp.

What big names are left in this class? Ayala?

I'm sure Dresser and Co. are frustrated too so I hope we hear about and see some changes on this front.

It's going to be hard to reload and stay competitive at this rate.

Dang, this one hurts. It was probably a long shot, but with as poor as recruiting has been he felt like a must get.

Last I heard, ISU was in good standing with Ayala, but that was before getting stomped by OSU.

Bingo-no secret Iowa/NLWC are the place to be if you want to win World/Olympic medals. Tough to compete with that as we are.

ISU doesn’t have much to offer a top 10 overall type of recruit.

    1. No proven RTC
    2. Very limited high level workout partners (especially if you take away Metcalf and St John)
    3. Mid-tier facilities
    4. Coach that has never coached an NCAA champion

Money or not, if you want to be an NCAA champion and make world Olympic teams, you’re probably not going to ISU.

It will be very hard for ISU to get the top blue chippers any time in the near future. ISU’s path to success is with 20-50 type of recruits. The problem is that they are striking out on them as well, and having to settle for recruits in the bottom half of the top 100.

lol Iowa is not "the place to be if you want to win World/Olympic medals"

They've had 1 world medalist training at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club since 2006. Zadick won in 06', and since then Gilman is the only one to take a medal at the world level (2nd in 2017).

In recent years NLWC, Nebraska, Ohio State, and oklahoma state all have more world team appearances and world medals off the top of my head. Hell, Fresno State's RTC has the same number of world level medals as Iowa does in the last decade.

Laugh all you want. Why else did Eiermann head there? Look at all the high level recruits they’ve landed recently. It’s their RTC that draws them in. Not a Hawkeye fan at all, but can clearly see the money they’re putting into their program is paying off. Nebraska’s budget is eaten up by JB & Green.

Just another day in rooting for teams that have to work 10 times as hard to get a leg up.

    The rich get richer.
