They probably have alcohol first. Then cannabis.

The problem with the gateway drug argument is that it discounts how far every heroin addict that started with cannabis, there’s 20 cannabis users who never moved on to the hard stuff.

I've seen it be a personality type thing to, like someone trying to keep up.

Had a friend who smoked for their first time in maybe May one year in college, and by late June was dealing in mass quantities.

I think with in a year or two was in the hard stuff.

I guess I know plenty of people who smoked before they drank (ironically, something that's completely illegal is actually easier to get ahold of than something that's legal and highly regulated when you're part of the population that isn't legally allowed to use it), but the point about the VAST majority of cannabis users never moving on to harder drugs remains the same.

Just because people start with something soft, doesn't mean that thing is what makes them more interested in harder drugs. People start using harder drugs usually because they're trying to kill some kind of emotional pain or trauma and find that drugs temporarily alleviate those feelings. Pretty soon something mild like cannabis isn't enough. Cannabis didn't create that - the underlying pain and dysfunction did.
I agree. I don't like the term gateway drug and think it's a dumb concept. I just like to point out the fallacy behind people referring to weed as a gateway drug along with the overall hypocrisy in society that alcohol is legal and weed is not.

IT is always a great idea to use both alcohol and weed to escape the normal adult pressures of life...because, as you know, it makes you fully capable of facing those realities. So enjoy your gummies, cookies, and ..for sure ..such all of those harmful chemicals into your lungs..old age will thank you a thousand times...if you make. What a clown show of choices.

Never done either because of fears of how I would possibly abuse due to severe anxiety and stress issues (caused by ADHD, OCD, and severe anxiety/depression). Biological father was a heavy drug user/drunk and saw too much of the impacts.

Would likely greatly benefit from the weed and spiral out of control from the alcohol. Unfortunately, I’ve had to accept that stress will likely end up killing me in my 40s instead.

But on a brighter note – go Cyclones!

This is the second comment I see related to stress/anxiety. I too fall into that camp. I've been recently diagnosed with ADHD and have always had pretty severe anxiety. Of all things, I was sitting in a meeting with a psychiatrist I was working with professionally who commented on my ADHD and how well I've learned to deal with it. I never thought it could be ADHD (my mother/brother are poster children of bad cases so my problems didn't even look like problems compared to them). That inspired me to actually seek medical help through therapy and medication.

I felt that adderall actually helped me control my anxiety a bit by helping "me" control my thoughts vs my brain just taking over. I don't like taking medication/drugs/alcohol due to the fear of losing control. I still drink in moderation but really don't like how it makes me feel and still fear getting drunk were "I'm" no longer in control. Its a vicious cycle. Having anxiety over taking medication that can help with anxiety. WTF lol.

I dabbled in CBD a few years ago when it was readily available before they cracked down on it and found it really helped. I've smoked weed a few times in my life and honestly preferred that vs alcohol. I'm VERY interested in edibles but again the anxiety of getting caught/fired/having my name in the paper is enough to stop me. Which is a shame because I feel like a microdose of THC/CBD could be one of the best treatments for me.

Good luck brother!

Alcohol is better for social situations and is more socially acceptable.
Weed is better for everything else.

Especially now with the vape carts. You can go around smoking weed in public and no one knows its not just a nicotine vape pen.

Im mostly a weekend partier with all the family/job time constraints. A couple fingers of bourbon at night during the week to wind down the day. The weekends I mix and match booze/weed depending on the situation.

I tried out some shroom chocolates when the wife and kids were out of town recently. Its been a good 20yr since Ive dabbled in that world and wow was it fun.

Hey buddy, eat my ****. You have no idea what anyone else’s life is like, yet you have the audacity to tell others how to live it. Go **** yourself.

weed tends to explode my brain. last time i tried edibles i couldn't speak for about 3 hours. I took about 1/16 of what the rest of the party took and everyone was having a great time except for me. couldn't hold on to a thought for long enough to verbalize it.

it wasn't very fun. I have tried pot in various forms probably 50x in my life. I have had a good time probably 3 of those times. turns out, its just not for me.
Bummer

Only if you smoke the gummy. That seems to be a theme here....smoking the herb like it's 1968 and we're burning draft cards.

Best buzz I got was from a cookie, but I shoulda smoked that mother ******
Hey if edibles is your thing great. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. But the tendency to over do it, especially with newbies, is a real thing. It's not just something I made up.
