I've never been a fan of edibles myself. It's slower to hit you but it can pack a wallop if you over do it. I have friends who have only tried it once. They ate some brownies and way over did it. Needless to say they didn't have a great time. It would be like trying your first drink by slamming 6 shots of vodka. It's not going to go well.

That's a great analogy.

I don't think alcohol companies are that against it. A lot of people use both, and that opens up things like "Cannabis infused beer" to them.

Pharmaceutical companies are absolutely against it, and a certain sector of American politics have made it part of the culture war. Weed is for lefties/minorities/hippies/etc.

Unless something has changed in the last year or two alcohol companies have been lobbying against it nearly as much as Big Pharma. There are are tons of articles about it. I think they stand to lose a ton of money if young people prefer pot over booze. People aren't gonna consume as much booze if they are stoned out of their mind.

Weed is illegal because Harry Anslinger was a piece of **** and there have been enough people in power just like him ever since. It actually started mainly because hemp was a legit threat to the timber industry. Then they realized they could demonize weed and arrest whoever they wanted, mostly blacks and latinos, as well as keep the average white person scared with tales of reefer madness. Anslinger didn't actually believe most of the ridiculous **** he said about weed and I'm sure most like him throughout history didn't either.

Like them both - but would never drive high. Alcohol on the other hand I have.
Depends what activity is - watching a game, booze. Just chilling then a gummie

Honest question.

How do people end up taking meth, cocaine, crack, heroin, etc? Do they just start out with those, or is there a progression? Sure - I can google medical journals, but what are the experiences here?

What's available and around gets taken up.

Weed gets the 'gateway drug' tag but most people I know that started smoking weed smoked cigs and drank alcohol long before that.

I know anecdotally some of it can be from a financial perspective. Selling is the way to make money with not much else available and at some point there's the temptation to try it although that's more of an environment deal than any sort of progression.

Nothing about weed makes you more likely to try those others. People willing to try **** will try ****. They'll blow right past the MJ and into those things.

A big reason why heroin addiction is getting worse is because the people who got addicted to pills 10-15 years ago when they doctors were handing them out like candy needed another way to get their fix when doctors quit prescribing it to them. That's why heroin is so common in suburban and even rural areas now. It's a whole new demographic. So pills have been a big gateway drug for heroin addicts.
