A Quick Glance At Iowa

I wouldn’t worry too much about Padilla. If he was a better option, I think they would be playing him.
I agree.

As I continue to look at the Iowa offense as a whole - especially going into this week - it’s hard for me to see how really any QB has a ton of success with how poor their OLine has played and their injury issues at WR…

According to the U of Iowa depth chart 3 of the 4 listed WRs for this week have yet to catch a pass in a college game and two of them are walk-ons.

Bruce and LaPorta are really the only two offensive players that have seen some success in that offense, and if defenses can take one or both of them away - that’d be tough on a lot of college QBs let alone Petras and Padilla.

You haven't met our coach. Sat a Heisman runner-up in favor of Kyle McCann. Sat Stanzi in favor of Christensen. Sat Beathard in favor of Rudock. Not saying Padilla is lights out or even all that much better, but KF has frequently whiffed badly on assessing the talent in our QB room.

Heacock will have defense play vanilla for 2 possessions, resulting in a 10 -14 point hole. Then ISU will try to play catch-up under pressure. This will result in 1-2 turnovers because of throwing in tight spots or stretching out trying to gain additional yards. ISU Defense clamps down and allows only 2 field goals there after. ISU Offense too pressured/tight to move ball effectively. Final score 16-10 or 20-10.

What time does a person need to show up to find a spot in the free parking lots? The 1-2 mile walk doesn’t bother me, we did that in Norman last year.

Also, are open containers and small gas’s grills allowed in finkbine or Hancher? Would like to cook a couple brats/burgers for the crew while have a beer or two.
That's just fuel for the first 1/4 mile!
In general I think the big concern for Iowa is #1 can the offense score any points at all and #2 will the defense get worn down if they get no rest and you keep putting them in bad situations over and over.
OK

I guess I hadn’t thought about this too much but when you put it that way, yikes. Add that to him doubling down on Brian’s role after a poor season from the offense by giving him the QB coach title along with OC and his general stubbornness to not change much, I get why Iowa fans are so damn frustrated.

This game will come down to execution as Iowa's defense and special teams are ELITE.

So for ISU to win we need to:
  • Win the turnover battle. Can't give Iowa's offense the short field
  • Our special teams have to perform close to Iowa's.
  • Limit Iowa's run game. Make them 1 dimensional.
  • Put pressure on Iowa's QB.

Without Jacobs, Iowa is likely to run a lot more 4-2-5 and only play 2 LBs with Cooper Dejean coming in and playing what they call the Cash position which is sort of a hybrid LB/safety role. We’ve used that coverage a bunch in recent years so it’s not new. I am disappointed Jacobs is out because I think he’s one of our better players but we have lots of good DBs so the pass defense isn’t something I’m super worried about.

Seems as if Dejean and Jacobs played a lot at the same time last game, especially on known passing downs. So will be interesting to see who has to step in due to the absence of Jacobs given that Dejean already played a ton when Jacobs was in.

One positive for Iowa is their punter. 8th in the nation at 47.9 yards per punt.
One positive for Iowa State is that he gets a lot of practice. 1st in the nation with 10 punts after one game. But like the article said he's good.

I’m starting to think ISU will win this game but I don’t see how so many on here think we’ll score 24+ on that defense. I’m hoping for 10-3 or something like that.

Because last year 8 of the 13 teams they played score 20 or more points on them. We scored 17 and our turnovers gave them at least 13 of their 27. If we would have not forced the FG to try to cut it to one score or continually turned it over or shanked punts, we probably have another 13-17 points right there.

Really sorry there are so many posts reminding me of last year's game. I had
d worked so hard to purge that from my brain

1 & 2 I really don't see happening..

3 could happen.

4 is likely.

ISU going to need a few big plays to force them to come from behind.

I can already see myself throwing remote thru my TV when the TE sneaks out a drag for 35 yards on 3 & 12.
