3rd recruiting weekend vs Ok State & Homecoming

Looks like Whites other visits were Purdue Michigan Brown and Rutgers . He wrote almost the exact same caption on all of the photos he posted except for Michigan where he mentioned the teams chemistry and being a family. Could be another disappointment , hope not.

It's not that I'm worried about losing him, I'm worried about losing the 10-15 guys before him, and now while every other D1 team it seems is signing top 50-100 level talent we keep swinging an missing. Then we have to start taking "risks" on recruits that are 50/50 that they'll even make it to ISU. Now I'm probably blowing this out of proportion, I just got really excited by Anderson, AE and a bunch of others we were in on. Here's to hoping good news is ahead and that we have another excellent season! Cheers!

It's hard not to be at least a little disconcerted. I'm excited about the staff and the trajectory of the program but you are 100% right. It's an arms race and we aren't getting the ponies in these next couple classes that the programs at or above our level are. We're better than we were but not where we need to be. Development of under the radar talent is key, but so is having elite talent in every class.

Henson was the one that hit me the hardest, and seeing him go and finish 3rd in a college open tournament this weekend did little to make me feel better. Iowa just continues to kill it recruiting. Here's hoping it swings in our favor...soon.

Be patient boys. We are still young. We still have a good chance at Facundo. I think this staff is being very careful about scholly dollars. We have a decent chance at top 10 this year and better the following year. I believe this momentum will lead to the commitments that we all want. We have at least five guys this year that are likely to over achieve. Stay the course.

Half the team is going to overachieve? I’m interested in what you are thinking.

I agree. Overachieved compared to what? Gomez, Degen, Carr and Colbray all should AA IMO and that’s nearly half the line up. I’m not sure that that would be overachieving though, they deserve those spots on the podium.

For starters, based on the Westlestat rankings, I would predict that Mackall, Gomez, Parker, Carr and whoever ends up as the starter at 197 will exceed their pre-season ranking.

Congratulations on being the first person ever to use the wrestlestat rankings to judge performance.

Dresser has been around the block a few times. He knows what’s up. Can’t be happy.

One of the things I do like about Coach is if he thinks there needs to be a change he isn’t afraid to do so. If you feels recruiting is becoming an issue I have confidence he will address it. It’s just how he seems to roll. He doesn’t have a lot of time left In coaching and he seems motivated.

184 is loaded this year. It will be tough for Colbray to make the podium but here’s to hoping he continues the upward trajectory he’s been on.

184 is loaded with what exactly? Zahid will run away with it, but every other highly ranked guy comes with question marks

Rasheed - has had injury and consistency issues throughout his career
Lujan - bumping from 174 and never AA'd before
Darmstadt - a beast but dropping from 197 so no idea if the weight will be an issue
Wilke - never AA'd and Colbray beat him last year
Geer - solid, but Colbray beat him last year
Venz - high variance wrestler, can beat just about anyone but will take some loses
DePrez/Bonaccorsi - had strong freshman seasons and will need to make jumps
Hidlay/Bolen - had great redshirt years, but are freshman getting their first full D1 season under their belts

Going to be plenty of challenges, but I think for the most part those guys are all on similar levels to Colbray from last season based on results. If he continues improving as we've seen during his time here, AA should be very achievable target.

The fact that you just named 11 guys not including Colbray proves my point. Add in Brit Wilson and Corey Hazel who are both solid guys and could push for R12 to AA spots. I don't think Colbray is on the same level as Darmstadt and he has proven he can't hang with Rasheed. Those 2 plus Zahid will be the top of the weight. That is 3 very good wrestlers. I think Rasheed will push Zahid if healthy.
There is a lot of depth with good wrestlers at 184 and Colbray is inconsistent. I hope we see him on the podium this year but it won't be easy.
