I must have missed people wanting Purdy benched, but nothing here surprises me lol. A loud few doesn’t equal “the majority”

I however do remember a lot of people wanting a new OC and to hire a ST’s coach.

Baylor game day thread. Lot of crow got ate in that thread by the end of that one.

OK, tell why Brock Purdy is better than Troy Davis.

Winning.

There’s a reason Dan Marino was never in the conversation of greatest QB of all time even though he owned all of the stats for a long time.

Troy might not even go down as best running back at ISU after Breece is done.

Before you bring up how Troy had nothing to work with for the rest of his team, I don’t care. If you want to be considered the best, you better deliver Ws.

So in your book, Alabama had the best player at every position this year because they won?

Winning and winning the championship are 2 different things. When someone is part of a team that wins 5 games total in the 3 years you play on that team, you can’t be considered the best player in the history of the school. He is unfortunately a victim of circumstance.

Well Moss is the best WR to ever play, but yeah Rice had the best/longest career.

Haha, good one. Rice has 7,000 more receiving yards than Moss, close to 600 more receptions, 40 more Touchdowns. Yes he played longer but that shows just how good he was. Age 40 season he had over 90 receptions, 1200 yards, and 7 touchdowns....

I think it's a fun debate. For a career obviously Rice is the best. Who had the best season or the best few years in their peak? In some ways I'd still say Rice is greatest per game or per year in terms of reliability, he's not the most gifted athletic player to play his position though.

As a big NBA fan for years Kareem had the best career stats but it was widely accepted that MJ was the greatest player in history and Kareem hasn't often been widely considered greatest of all time but more in the top 5 discussion. Now it looks like LeBron is going to own all of those career stat arguments but there's still a bit of a debate if his most dominant stretch matches MJ's and the fact that his per year production is probably going to be lower.

For ISU I could see that TD was more of an athletic freak than Brock...but so were Hall, Hakeem Butler, Lazard, Seneca and quite a few others even on last year's team alone. Brock is the definition of a gamer. Tom Brady probably isn't in the top 25 of any physical metric historically for his position other than between the ears.

Ehhh, he did deliver back to back 2,000 yard seasons when the defense knew all along who was getting the ball. I do realize you stated Ws but one person alone can’t deliver those. Not even Brock Purdy. For the record I love the era of this football team and Brock Purdy.

I completely agree with what you are saying. But watching history being made when Troy was playing. I don't think anything compares to that. I guess all I can say is I wish Troy was on the current team. Maybe 3000 yards back to back seasons. Not taking anything away from Breece Hall or Brock Purdy. They are very good. The game has changed since Troy was playing to now. So let's not turn this into an argument about what player was better or what team was better. let's be thankful for what we have now. GO CYCLONES !!!!!

I'm very happy for what Troy did for the program. But two things:

1. If you were watching history being made with Troy, you were one of the few. There was nobody at those games. While nothing may compare to what he was doing, we've seen it simply doesn't matter if you aren't winning.

2. Troy wouldn't rush for 3000 yards now because nobody carries the ball as many times as he used to. He carried it 345 times in '95 and 402 times in '96. Hall carried it 279 times this year and he's an absolute workhorse in terms of the modern era. You can say what you want to about Troy's line but this was a patchwork line this year that got injured in multiple places. It honestly probably wasn't much better. While TD was great... I don't think he changes the outcome of this season one iota. I think Hall is that good and in many ways he's a better talent.

I typed "greatest QBs of all-time" into Google and this is the top twelve it gave me...

Dan Marino is literally third on the list. He's always in the conversation for one of the best of all-time.

He put up modern numbers in an 80s and 90s NFL that was not nearly as pass happy.

It’s a worthless list without Brock. Clearly he is top 12 :jimlad:

There may have been more athletic players, or better arms, or better stories, but pound-for-pound, looking at the body of work, #15 is the greatest to ever don the cardinal and gold. It was true before today and now it has been affirmed.

I think it's too early to tell, but this may prove true. He has another year to do what hasn't been done. He's certainly up there in my book as among the greatest Cyclones ever already.
