Seriously you are clueless. Effort problems happen on every team. They happened here last year for ***** sake (Iowa, the losing streak before Kansas). So your premise is just wrong.
To the first bolded point...
That sounds a lot like the Iowa State team that lost to UAB in Fred's final game here. Lack of a consistent effort is not just a Steve Prohm thing, or even an Iowa State thing. It's a college basketball thing; lots of teams, even good ones, lose focus and toughness from time to time.
As to the second point...
So, you freely admit that you've "forgotten" about this site for years (which would mean you didn't post at all last year during both the highs and the lows, or maybe not even during the Sweet 16 season a couple of years ago), but only now decide to come on after a horrific home loss to give us your opinion?
Yeah, do not expect this to go well for you or to get a whole lot of respect.
It isn't really effort as much as it is mental toughness, focus, youth and leadership with this team which all kind of go hand in hand.
Even best case scenario with this team (if Talley, Brase and Babb were healthy all year) I think 6 wins in conference was probably it. So now they may get 3 or 4.
Next year you hopefully have a healthy Babb and Talley. Then you bring in two tough and good defenders in Shayok and Jacobson. And Shayok is a versatile player on offense. You bring in Horton-Tucker who is versatile on offense and you have Wigginton and Lard a year older and presumably better plus Young who is steady and will give you good minutes. There is no excuse next year for them to not be a good defensive team and they should be better offensively. Last year's team ended up I believe around 40 in defensive efficiency and I think the team has a chance to do better than that if it all comes together.

Twice in Lubbock vs putrid TTech teams, vs UAB. Clunkers happen. Games with poor effort happen. Some teams have the talent to get by with it on occasion. ISU rarely does.
Love the argument about the Sweet 16 two years ago needing to be discounted because of the double digit seeds while the Kentucky and tOSU losses were "tough draws" as if tournament pairings were set by some random matchup generator.
I think Prohm can be successful here long term, but only time will tell. He did a good job the past two years. Despite what people think, those teams were not so talented that they are going to be top 5 seeds in consecutive years with bad coaching. He's not the creative offensive mind Fred is, but who is in CBB? Prohms done very well in HS recruiting and should be given some credit for the development of Nader and certainly Burton.
I don't think it's fair to hammer Fred or Prohm too hard for this rebuild. Once Naz came back last year, barring something crazy, the seniors were going to play tons of minutes. Having a good HS big a few years ago that would be a Jr or Sr this year would've helped, as would a Juiston or Igor, but no matter what this was going to be a rebuild. Wish it was going smoother, but it's a good lesson for Lard, Wigginton and the other young guys.
Strong men (Fred and Co.) create good times. Good times (More B12 championships than ever before) create weak men. Weak men (freshman, no leadership) create hard times. Hard times (this season) create strong men. And so the cycles goes.
Effort problems actually don't happen on every team, especially like the Wis-Milw game & the TN game. I personally can't remember seeing anything like that at home and as far as I can tell, many others think the same thing. This was supposed to be the proverbial team that finishes better than it started due to their youth, and on balance they've gotten worse. They showed some resiliency early but you don't really see it now. In any case, I hope I'm wrong but nobody has offered any valid reason to have faith in Prohm, and I still don't get what he's done to earn this kind of loyalty, aside from taking the job in the first place.

I'm sure other responses have addressed this, but it isn't Prohm's fault Purdue didn't advance as seeded in '16. Then ISU faced the top seed in the Sweet 16, and Virginia probably wasn't the most advantageous matchup, either.
