I actually think Fred will look at UNC/UK/KU

Kids are done. He’s got a team that will lose most of its players.

You did something impressive at NU…but it’s not a BB destination and Lincoln.

~A week ago I said Hoiberg would never leave, because even if they'd lost in the second round that's about as high as Nebraska basketball fans' expectations ever would've gotten. UNC and potentially Kansas would change things. I still don't think he'd leave, as, like Self, he also has health issues, and one stellar season that's mostly the result of handing over the keys to the defense probably isn't enough to sell UNC boosters on

I’m curious who North Carolina and Kansas would target if the jobs opened up:

North Carolina I think would for sure start and probably end with Golden. If they swing and miss then probably Oats. I think after that they’d want to stay within the North Carolina family (or at least someone with some connection to North Carolina), but they could swing for Otz or Byington at Vandy.

If Self retires, I’d bet money they’d hire Jacque Vaughn. He may even secretly be the coach in waiting there.

Kansas goes after Fred. It’s his dream job and they have family connections. His daughter worked for Self.

Maybe. This isn’t a matter of firing a coach due to underperformance though (even though they have underperformed).

I think Kansas would prefer to keep the current regime in place rather than start over with a Hoiberg. Plus Vaughn would be cheaper (they are on the hook for big Football infrastructure upgrades and NIL and don’t have B10/SEC media dollars).

Maybe Fred has learned to handle it but he walked into a prima dona buzz saw in Chicago, I wonder if there is the same risk in Lawrence? That and his heart condition, I am not sure he doesn't ride it out in Lincoln where can do whatever he wants the next 10-15 years? Doesn't mean they won't go after him.

Is there coaching talent that is a KU Alumn anywhere?

Idk, this feels like "re-negotiate his contract with a massive NIL boost" situation. No way Nebraska doesn't pony up after this run.

It sure seems like KU/Self has something going on inside the program...Self not happy with something/someone? Self's comments seemed coded...and he is only 63...but if he doesn't feel healthy enough to coach then he has earned his retirement! That said...I think Fred would crawl to KU's campus if that is what it took to get that job!

Not sure that Mac is actually 'retired'. Might be a Kyle Whittingham situation there.

Don't be shocked if his name pops up at Arizona State.
He did say last year that he was only going to coach 2 or 3 more years.
