***2026 NCAA MBB coaching carousel***

It’s the tournament, chaos happens and no one cares about what happens at drake.

You need someone with a better track record then just one year in a power conference and no name or recruiting acumen to go to UNC
Todd Golden had been an HC at San Francisco for 4 years (with nowhere near the success McCollum had) and DOBO at Auburn before he got Florida. Grant McCasland had nowhere near the success McCollum had in D2, Arkansas State and North Texas. Took Dusty May 5 years to figure it out at Florida Atlantic after bouncing around assistant jobs.

Sometimes guys are just really, really good regardless of where they've been and I think everyone would look at McCollum totally different if he'd gone the P5 assistant route rather than taking HC at NW when he was 28.

UNC couldn’t do better than McCollum. Hate to say it but he’s elite at Xs and Os and they have a GM and unlimited resources there that can help manage the talent procurement

He's they type of guy that NBA teams are going to go after because he understands every aspect of the profession. Roster building, x and O's, player development. He's like Brad Stevens

100% agree. I’m just curious how hungry he is to climb the latter since he spent 15 years at NWMSU so he is somewhat loyal maybe?

Yea, the announcers like to make a big deal about him growing up in Iowa.

UNC is a blue blood, but Ben will have the resources at Iowa to build a top program. Hawk fans will support a winner and that also means financially.

IMO it comes down to if he'd rather spend the next decade in Iowa City or Chapel Hill.

Anything is possible, I guess, but I don't see it happening. Haven't several other schools tried to lure him in recent years?
He's done with the Bulls, that much seems certain. And 60 seems too young to retire just yet. Add in that a college blue-blood like UNC can likely match the $$ of an NBA job, or very close to it, and yeah, he has to be UNC's first phone call.

Seems like he’d be a better fit at Kansas to me - but maybe they already have their heir apparent.

True. Different era then his past opportunities. Just felt like at this point he would be a lifer at UNI.
Yeah. Actually signed a lifetime contract last spring. I'm with you in that I expected him to stay another 5 years, get to 500 wins and retire early.

Still think it ends up being Madsen there but he's apparently looking.
