Going to need some new rules to speed up the game
I was trying to figure out how the game had lasted almost 4-hours as of the 10th-inning (when I went to bed) since most games don't go that long with the new rules. I suspect they plugged in some more commercials, but I'm not sure.

I wasn't rooting for the Dodgers but Edman's play to field a hit then throw out the runner at 3rd was a masterpiece.

I have a few thoughts on the game.

  1. Toronto's lineup was really compromised after about the 8th inning. They aggressively subbed and weren't able to push across a run, which left their lineup pretty underwhelming for the remainder of the game. I would have probably done the same thing, but when it doesn't work out, you just gotta pray Vlad or someone runs into one.
  2. I'm not sure Shohei will see another ball to hit the rest of the series. This guy isn't human.
  3. LA's situational hitting was atrocious. The only guys I trusted at the plate were Shohei and Freddie, and they smartly took the bat out of Shohei's hands. That being said, there were some absolute shots hit by the Dodgers in extras that are usually home runs but stayed in the park because of that marine layer that rolled in late.
  4. Springer getting hurt was and is MASSIVE. I still have nightmares about him in the 2017 World Series when he hit something like 100 home runs.
  5. It would be nice to see Mookie do something at the plate this series. He's been pretty much absent.
  6. Tommy Edman made some remarkable plays. That guy was one of my favorite players before he came to LA and it's been a lot of fun watching him in blue.
  7. Freddie Freeman. All-around good guy and absolute legend.
  8. The ump and his delayed calls were maddening. Bichette getting picked off worked in my team's favor, but it was complete BS.

Point 1 was the biggest issue for me. It’s easy with hindsight, but I never agree with subbing out your best players. Bichette is injured but why take him out if he was healthy enough to start? And I never would have taken Kirk out. I don’t care how slow he is. And Barger too.

I always root for the small market teams, but I don’t hate the Dodgers. All the players are at least likable. Not like the Yankees of the 90’s and 2009. I loathed those teams.

As a Jays fan, completely agree with all you’ve said. I’d also add Schneider should have let Bassett pitch another inning. I think he only had single-digit pitches for the one inning he pitched. Should not have taken Barger out. Maybe a silver lining can be that Bichette and Kirk may be fresher tonight.

But as a fan it was strange because after most of the good bats were subbed, the team still kept fighting, as did the Dodgers, so I did not feel too bad after losing. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team.

no skin in this game myself. i agree with most of what you said... that said, if the Jays weren't absolutely atrocious in base running this game might have been over in the 9th or 10th. i said earlier yesterday evening the way they were overaggressive in their baserunning might have cost them the World Series... and after losing that way in 18, if they don't come out and win tonight I see it as series over.

It didn't help with the number of relievers used.

But it also seems like all the Networks are adding more commercial time to compensate for higher rights fees. Seems like most ISU football games this fall have been 3.5 hours.

Bichette caught between bases after a late strike call … runner thrown out at 3rd (admittedly a great play by the Dodgers) … runner thrown out by 30 feet at home … yeah, you might have something there

The throw out at home was hilarious, Smith goes to swipe and tag and he’s like oh **** you’re nowhere close.
I was also chortling about the challenge on that because the catcher has every right to block the plate once he has the ball … and he had the ball way before there was any chance at finding “a path to the plate”

If I'm Toronto, I'm disappointed in the result last night, they certainly had opportunities, but I'd almost be more encouraged. The bullpen was supposed to be their weakness, but they more than did their part. Without Springer, Lukes, Bichette, or Kirk for the last 10ish innings they should be feeling okay about playing even with most of LA's starters. Plus, ABs for role players may pay dividends later in the series. I think this one goes 6 or 7, so depth will matter.

Tonight is going to be about who can get more from their starter, or maybe more precisely, which starter can recover and minimize the damage better. Both those pens are stretched, getting some arms back on schedule is going to be pretty big for game 5.
