MLB: ***2026 MLB Season Thread***

Post Cubs :puke: watching the Blue Jays vs. Dodgers with Max Scherzer (2919 IP) vs. Clayton Kershaw (2808). Announcers discussing that both have a shot at 3000 IP over their careers and pretty likely be the last starting pitchers to reach the 3000 IP milestone.

Verlander leads active pitchers at 3510 innings and the 4th place guy Charlie Morton has 2233 IP.

Surprise to me, Jose Quintana is 5th highest at 2063 IP. Former Cub Kyle Hendricks is in 14th place with 1692 IP.

Caught a couple innings of the Yanks/Cards last night in St. Louis. They lost the broadcast audio from the booth for most of one inning and it was just the mics on the field picking up the stadium noise. Was nice. And a tip of the hat to the Cards for not being one of the teams that blast stadium hype music snippets every at bat or every pitch. Some teams act like they are the Portland Pickles and not a MLB team and was cool to see the Cards, a storied franchise, act like who they are, a real MLB team.

Tommy Pham at it again. He flipped his bat on a walk that ended up causing the benches to clear. He later went on social media accusing the catcher of taking steroids.

Has anyone else been following Manfred's discussion of baseball realignment? Essentially, he wants to completely get rid of the AL and NL and replace them with something similar to NBA/NHL East/West setup.

I'm aboslultey a baseball purist. I dislike the DH, Interleague Play and the ghost runner. HOWEVER, I completely understand that you cannot grow the game trying to cater to people like me, so I've begrugingly warmed to all these changes. This, to me just seems like a bridge too far.

What say all of you? Nothing official has come out this picture is just how people are imagining it.

Trying to get MLB modernized will only be a bandaid until they get the one thing that is greatly needed— a salary cap.

The hell with tradition. Owners just want to extract every dollar they can from the public.

I mean, I hate it, because I still remember when the AL and NL were totally separate and only mixed at the All Star Game and World Series, and that’s the way it should be (and get off my lawn!).

But that ship has been let out of the barn (the cows have sailed? Whatever) so there’s zero reason at this point to still have an AL and an NL. Grouping teams in a more regional manner makes sense, I guess (although I still believe the schedule shouldn‘t be balanced to the extent of lessening inter-division games, you should actually play your division mates more in order to win said division, but that’s probably an outdated notion, too).

I have no problem with DH and interleague play.

But not a fan of the current extra inning rule. Too easy to score without a hit (e.g. ground-out to first and a sac-fly). I would start the ghost runner on 1st base instead of 2nd. Increasing the need to have a base hit to score a runner.

I would also like to see a run rule or ability by losing manager to call game after 8 innings. Despise use of position players as pitcher. Just put the game out its misery and let fans go home.

It wasn't Manfred's proposed east/west alignment the link showed. But the Cubs & Brewers have to be in the same division. And I would say the same with STL and KC- if baseball really wants to create fan interest by focusing on rivalries. I wouldn't mind having a midwest division with: Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals & Royals. And then choose 2 others from the Rockies, Reds, Detroit or Cleveland.

Maybe go with 4 dvisions of 8 teams.
