***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

I'm not expecting McCarthy to light it up early in the season.... most rookies don't. I think he will be better as the season progresses and he learns more. The Vikings season will go the way McCarthy goes. I'm not expecting them to make the playoffs, but hope they do.
Anything less than the playoffs this year will be a failure on the staff. They have assembled a top 5 roster outside of potentially qb. If McCarthy doesn't live up to at least getting this roster to the playoffs, then the staff put way to much trust in him and should have exhausted every avenue to have a backup plan. I think you are right that it will be a rough start, but they have spent a ton of money and draft capital to build an IOL to be able to lean on the run game for some time.

I listened to two different podcasts last week and both hosts said the Vikings may have the most talented roster in the league. I really wish there was a way we could’ve kept Daniel Jones, but it may have meant telling him he could compete for the starting spot.

I have a lot of confidence in the QB situation. O'Connell is great with QBs and they're going with rookies for #1 and #2. I'm confident that he'll be able to call a game that allows JJ to succeed.

A lot will rest on some of those older FA signings staying healthy though too (especially on the DL)

Giving up 4th and 5th round picks for a 35 year old.

What the heck?
they also get a 2027 5th round pick and a 2026 7th round pick.

Thielen is still productive and the Vikings really need his WR help.

Plus, after this trade, they still have 11 2026 draft picks most likely. Thats a LOT and using that to get some short term WR help makes a ton of sense.

The last round that’s relevant for finding quality players is the fourth, nowadays. Everything else is just clutter. Immense long shots.

And that’s giving up a 4th that’s a chance to leverage into a third, which is even better.

It's an overpay to some degree, but we had the room to work with and really needed a body of Thielen's caliber.
Absolutely needed him. Without Thielen the first three weeks were going to likely be rough for Jmac. Now he can take some of the load off of Jefferson.

Man, if Iowa State fans only knew of some guy that was the last pick in the draft that's worked out pretty well.

Yep. And if only we were daft enough to count on the odds of lightning striking twice.
While not ever player drafted in rounds 5-7 will end up like Purdy, there are PLENTY of players on NFL teams that are rounds 5-7 (or even undrafted) who play big roles on their teams - even if they aren't a superstar.

3 out of the probably top 5 Bears Defenders are out with an injury tonight. Darisaw is out for the Vikings though.
