They tried to schedule a better schedule but P4s had no interest. There's no advantage to play a team like that when you can blow out buy games and play in Vegas. The team went 31-0 they absolutely belong in the tournament especally at the expense of the 12th best SEC/ACC team.

I get why Miami leaked this, but i don't agree with how they've tried to present this. There is a stark difference between "we wanted to play better teams" and "we wanted to play better teams if those teams paid us enough."

********. "No interest" doesn't tell the whole story. These games aren't free, so I'd like to know the answers to these questions.

1. What type of arrangement did Miami-OH want with the P4 teams? Home/Home? 1 Home, 2 Away?
2. How much $$ did Miami-OH want for just an away 'buy' game? That's not discussed in that article. Maybe they asked for too much and P4 programs can buy cheaper games. Was Miami-OH willing to play for free? Probably not. So how much $$ did they demand?

3. You don't even need to schedule P4 teams, just play tougher mid-majors. Schedule games with some top MVC or WCC teams.

They were asking for MM+ money and they aren't worth that.

Man, I'm Mr Mid Major but I have a tough time with Miami. He didn't even try to put a decent schedule together (which can be done without P4 games) and only even played 2 Q1/2 games. The MAC absolutely sucks outside of two teams. Predictive metrics have them as basically Colorado State who isn't close to an at large. To win 31 games and have a WAB sub-3 is an indictment of how awful the schedule was.

I guess I'd rather have them in than Auburn or Indiana but the consequence for legitimate MM+ leagues (which the MAC isn't) when they get blown out in Dayton are going to be 'see, mids don't belong at all if the undefeated one can't win a game' regardless of context.
There non conference SOS was 1 of the worst in all basketball.

Do you remember the old Bracket busters they used to do in mid February ? Why did that ever go away. Was great way to get these teams a quad1/2 win and great exposure.

Just like everything else, ESPN took over. It got too big and the value disappeared because good teams weren't getting good games anymore. Plus, we've allowed national media to blur the line between mid major and low major.

I loved it. If I remember right they didn't schedule the games until couple weeks before which Is perfect concept for what it was. Seems like good thing to bring back in today's world of struggling to find good opponents

I think there is some blame on Miami Ohio, they definitely screwed up scheduling and if they miss out they will adjust in the future.

That being said, I do think P4s on purpose avoid scheduling tougher high level mid-majors and would rather beat a 300+ KenPom team by 50 instead. Here is a list of schools in terms of responses.

No available responses:

Pittsburgh

Wisconsin

Marquette

USC

Sacred Heart

Oregon

Ohio State

Mississippi State

Florida

Response(s) but no agreement:

Michigan State

UCLA

Boise State

Grand Canyon

Kansas (“We’ll need to look at next year”)

BYU

Utah

Illinois (“I need to get two high NET games 300+ before I would think about playing you.”)

Virginia Tech

Nebraska

There are a combined 56 teams in the MM+ leagues that would've either bought them or taken a H-H.

There's lots of blame on Miami here.

I agree. I work in sales and these emails are less than desirable from a selling standpoint on why these teams need to schedule you or what’s in it for them. Miami is within driving distance to Cincinnati, Xavier, Michigan, Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky, Dayton, etc. Find it really really hard to believe that all of these schools said no.

You mean like how UNI is within driving distance to Ames and Iowa City?
