***2026-27 Mens College Basketball Thread***

Makes me feel good....maybe a bit of WVU karma. Seems like Devries might have taken advantage of that situation a little too much....and maybe player Devries too.
Indiana is the oldest team in the Country too. So it'll be awful interesting on how they go with a roster reset.

There might not be a lot of other options. Unless you prefer Auburn to one of those.

Among the few possibilities, most containing some level of "ifs":
A-10: VCU is in now, but near fringe, has to advance at least a couple of rounds. If auto-bid is other than SLU or VCU, that's bid steal.
American: South Florida maybe could maintain at-large, but already is in 12 range, would a couple of wins leap UT/IU types? Probably one-bid league.
Big East: Auto-bid other than UConn, SJU or Nova. Seton Hall is only remaining fringe at-large, but it's quite a ways down the list.
MAC: Auto-bid to someone other than Miami, and hope they reach title game just to be safe (should be in already, but don't tempt fate).
MWC: Either New Mexico or San Diego State gets auto-bid. One of them as at-large is possible, but no real chance to build on resume, and they'd face each other in semifinal (so both couldn't advance to final).

Any other bid stealing would have to come from P4 leagues, that'd be just as bad.
I think this all goes to show how easy it is to get the to NCAA tournament. Yes, it is easy and we absolutely should expect to always make the Dance. Always. Every year. There are no rebuilding years any more. Making the NCAA is the bottle of the barrel expectation and we should be disappointed with anything less. Teams not making the dance either have horrible coaching or have suffered catastrophic injuries to their lineup.

Can not wait to hear SEC mouth breathers argue for mediocre Auburn over and undefeated Miami team.
Isn’t Auburn 16-15? Why would they even be considered? They shouldn’t even be considered for the NIT, let alone the NCAA.

Fortunately for Iowa, being a .500 team in the Big 10 with one maybe two wins over tourney teams seemingly means you're easily in the tourney this year.

Man, I'm Mr Mid Major but I have a tough time with Miami. He didn't even try to put a decent schedule together (which can be done without P4 games) and only even played 2 Q1/2 games. The MAC absolutely sucks outside of two teams. Predictive metrics have them as basically Colorado State who isn't close to an at large. To win 31 games and have a WAB sub-3 is an indictment of how awful the schedule was.

I guess I'd rather have them in than Auburn or Indiana but the consequence for legitimate MM+ leagues (which the MAC isn't) when they get blown out in Dayton are going to be 'see, mids don't belong at all if the undefeated one can't win a game' regardless of context.

It's an interesting situation. Their coach said recently ~ "What's the point of the regular season then?" which I kind of agree with, but your points here are certainly valid too.

My bias is I think a team like Miami-OH should be in over a team like Auburn.

They tried to schedule a better schedule but P4s had no interest. There's no advantage to play a team like that when you can blow out buy games and play in Vegas. The team went 31-0 they absolutely belong in the tournament especally at the expense of the 12th best SEC/ACC team.

I get what you’re saying. But are there opportunities for a team like Miami to schedule better? With the move to more preseason tournaments, did they have to chance to get into one of those? Are there neutral site or even 2-1 opportunities against P4 opponents? I get frustrated when the P4 coaches won’t schedule top MM teams and then complain about their SOS when it comes to tournament selection. How about you play them instead of the same matchups we see year after year of made for ESPN games.

You can build a good schedule without P4s. There are several teams around the country at the MM+ level doing it. As an example, Belmont was desperate for a H-H that started on the road this year and would have taken that game in a heartbeat.

If that schedule was 250 instead of 364, I'd feel a whole lot better about it.
