The guy who restored Oakmont in 2023 (Gil Hanse) just “walked” the front 9 on Golf Channel. Damn, that was awesome. He did an excellent job of explaining everything and the course looks amazing.

EDIT: Just “walked” the back 9. Great TV right there. I didn’t even notice Brandel Chamblee the whole time.

Why are they using push mowers instead of a normal large tractor/mower that golf courses typically use?
I think I read they are modified push mowers. They settings at exactly how long they want to grass, smaller deck ensure a more level cut and the mowers sort of suck the grass upward to keep it standing straight up.

Feel like they always hype the open with how hard it is gonna be and how the pros are going to struggle but it’s been since 2018 the scores been even close to Even par or worse and before that 2013.

They use the “insane rough” and the 2 or 3 viral clips of guys having a terrible time in it as the barometer as to how “hard” the course is. It’s really all about the greens.

I think the morning dew is helping to tame the greens a bit. I'm sure they'll let them bake out a bit as the week goes on
Chances of rain the rest of the week, so I doubt we see it get any drier. I'm not sure that over-par final score they were talking about is going to happen.

Someone already 4 under on this “beast” of a course. I’m tempering my expectations of it being carnage this week from what we are seeing so far. Hopefully it gets nasty as the days progress but so far it ain’t what was predicted.

Of 78 players out there, I think only 13 are under par. It is playing easier than expected early, but I think it will be easy to follow up 5 under with 3 over.
