Someone already 4 under on this “beast” of a course. I’m tempering my expectations of it being carnage this week from what we are seeing so far. Hopefully it gets nasty as the days progress but so far it ain’t what was predicted.
The equipment is just too damn good, along with the kind of golfer at this level these days.

Both Xander and Bryson flew the church pew bunkers on #3 earlier. Watch the videos up thread. That is an uphill tee shot and they extended that bunker so it requires close to 350 to be beyond them.

Someone else (I didn’t catch who) hit a drive 50 yards past a spectator walkway. That walkway was thought to be out of range from the tee.

Even the toughest course in the world needs some protection, and right now the weather isn’t providing any. Conditions are pretty much perfect for scoring.

Still…only about 1/3 of those on the course is E or better.

Oh, Rory. Hit the drive in extremely tall grass, hit that onto the thick lip of a bunker with no stance, then chunked it into the rough again. I think that's where we see the scores escalate a bit. Might play 16 of the holes at -4, but have two bad holes with doubles or triples and that effectively cancels out the rest.

Then he also bangs in a long bogey putt.
