People know the differences between PG and 2-guard or wing. You are overrating how important playing a tried and true PG is, to literally spell our guards for 4-5 minutes a game, due to it being an emergency situation as a result of injuries.
I'm not sure they do, considering that most everyone here has always referred to Lipsey as the team's primary PG, even though Gilbert was handling the ball (both bringing it up the court, and in the half court) quite a bit more this season than Lipsey was, perhaps until Gilbert's struggles in conference play.

Kelderman wasn’t facilitating the offense against KSU. He was bringing the ball up across half court (unpressured fyi), passing it off, and then getting the heck out of the way to create space.

I get the defensive component, but if Nojus isn’t capable of being able to do what Kelderman did, that’s a red flag.
But, I generally agree with your point here. Kelderman was not doing things that someone like Heise or Nojus wouldn't have been capable of doing in terms of handling the ball. I think Kelderman got the call because Otz trusted him more defensively. And to Kelderman's credit, he was super active defensively in his minutes on Saturday.

I'm not sure I'd call it a red flag for Nojus, but it's at least a yellow one.

I’d be shocked if he stayed. He probably makes 250k a year at Drake, maybe more. He would make 4 million a year at Indiana. I know not everyone is saying n it for the money but that’s way to much money to ignore
If you can 15x your income and don’t do it you’re a fool. Worst comes to worst he goes to an IU type school and it doesn’t work out he has generational wealth and can go back down to an MVC type school.

Like Prohm did? That move back down worked out well. Also…what’s Lickliter up to these days? 11-20 or something at Evansville?

He makes $850k at Drake. The lowest paid Valley coach makes $375k and there are now 4 guys at a million or better.

This isn't 2005.

I agree that he's most likely gone. He was selective and made the move when he did so that he could get to the power league level quickly.

He also has Stirtz and a few more months of NIL this spring. It’s the time to lock in a $4 million 5 year deal

And having previous experience or contacts recruiting at the high major level has never meant less.

Stirtz is a good player. Not the most athletic, but very steady with the ball and really good instincts and vision. He reminds me of Lipsey, some, in how it feels like he knows where the ball is going to be before anyone else does. Good shooter and never gets emotional. Gets to the FT line a lot (many times via bail out when he drives, but hey…still ends up on the line), and he knocks them down.

Just an overall, solid player. I think most coaches would love to have what he brings to the PG position.
I’m wondering if these DII players get their eligibility refreshed like the Jucos did?

I feel like Fish is gone and 50/50 on Nojus and Watson. We’re probably going to have to shell out big money to keep Jefferson. Rock, no idea. If he’s making good progress and there’s a chance he’s our backup 5, then he could stick around. Seems to me that they’ll have 2-3 spots to fill in the portal. We all know that TJ will moneyball it and probably sign guys under the radar.

Hard to say on Fish. He tried to leave last year and evidently had no suitors. Then he's had absolutely zero film to show this season to potential new teams. Could be he's a program guy like Mulvey at Iowa.

They full court pressed him when he brought the ball up court btw

He'd be an absolute idiot not to leave. He may be a great coach but I think there's a "fool's gold" component to this. He took his core at an exceptional DII school and brought them here. They are veterans, they've played together for years and they've been able to expose a very watered-down Valley. Who knows how he can recruit a building a roster at this level once those guys are gone.

Why is it a red flag that a 6'5" wing can't guard very quick opposing PG like McDaniel? Would you expect a guy like Matt Thomas to guard opposing PG's? I wouldn't expect that from Matt.

Also you are completely ignoring the practice aspect. How much do you think Nojus has played PG on offense or defense since coming to Ames? When do you think the staff knew Gilbert couldn't play. A couple days prior to game? Not much time for Nojus to learn a new role and be successful. It's not like TJ just says go play.
