2025 Portal Activity

I was interested to see that ISU has been in contact with Wazzoo DT Khalil Laufau, a state of Utah kid.

That suggests to me that Big Citrus is at least thinking about goi g early entry to the NFL.

After all, with Zaimir Hawk and Alijah Carnell back, and Ka’Mori Moore enrolling early, it seems like we don’t necessarily need another NG.

Or maybe I’m wrong. Guess we’ll see.

That kid is a solid player. Hope we get him to replace J.R., even if Orange stays we could use him. I wonder if there's a link between him and the HS kid from Utah that we flipped from Stanford.

Trust the process my friend, there will be others!
I wasn't too worried about this one. Kid would have been a great addition, but safety isn't a big need. Got Cooper, Patton, Neal, James, Surges all returning with playing experience and incoming freshman Stecker could see the field a lot. Actually, yeah we do need some depth there.

Curious, what makes you say that?
I think the bulk of NIL/portal movement moving under athletic department direction next summer with a spending cap will lead to more careful spending with longer deals, defined contractual terms, and less movement overall. That will largely reduce the arms race aspect of NIL paired with the portal. Guys will still move for a lack of playing time, but ultimately teams won't be re-recruiting everyone on their roster every year.

Plus, a player moving this year and getting a deal is kind of grandfathered outside the rules that go into effect next summer, making this the right time to move for a guy who is a good player but unlikely to grab a large share of a teams NIL pool once the new rules apply.

Not everyone who enters the portal finds a place to land of course, and with roster limitations coming, finding a combination of a place that might guarantee playing time with some money might be easier to do now than later.

You realize that players will still be able to get NIL deals outside the University? Now players are going to share in the University $22mil and still get outside money too.

It’s pretty easy.

Despite all of the insouciant whining about the linebacker depth, we’re actually going to have lots of talented linebackers back at his position.

And the odds are that far more of them will be healthy than this year.

As it says, he’s a grad transfer. He has his ISU degree.

He wants to go somewhere he has a chance to start for his last season, and doesn’t have to split PT with two other guys.

His choice of a grad or degree may have something to do with it, too.
Who on the team in your opinion at LB - is as good as Willie Harvey, Marcel Spears or a Mike Rose? Because those guys were difference makers.

Xavier Townsend (UCF) to the good guys
