Iowa State earns first portal commit out of UCF WR Xavier Townsend

Iowa State has earned its first commitment of the transfer portal of the cycle in former UCF wide receiver Xavier Townsend.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver sat for the final eight games of the year to preserve his eligibility.

In the first four games, Townsend caught 10 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown, including a 50-yard game against Colorado. He also added 88 rushing yards on 12 carries.

During his true sophomore year, Townsend collected 325 yards on 33 catches.

Iowa State offered Townsend out of high school, and the Florida native has a relationship with quarterback Rocco Becht.

The Cyclones are going after a number of receivers in the portal to replace the graduating production of 1000-yard wideouts Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins.

Townsend will have two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives in Ames.
