2025 NFL Draft

Talent wins games, the idea that "hard work beats talent when the talent does not work hard" sounds nice, but the more talent you have on the roster, the better the team. Go back and look at the recruiting of the teams in the championship game year after year, and then match them up with where they ranked in recruiting and it's the same teams at the top. We all love the Purdy story, and EIU has had quite a few, low ranked players that have made millions in the NFL, but that is because they were missed on by the rankings, many were injured or just did not get seen and were therefore missed by the ranking services. It's not a perfect system, but they are right most of the time.
Oh certainly. I don’t disagree with that. My point is it’s not that hard to identify that a kid is an elite talent. 247 is acting like they are achieving some impossible feat here.

ESPN's Matt Miller 2nd Round Projection:

36. Cleveland Browns (via JAX)

Jayden Higgins, WR, Iowa State

Cleveland needs a tackle here, but the run in late in Round 1 wiped out the top options. The Browns could instead pivot and get an X receiver with the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Higgins.

i

55. Los Angeles Chargers

Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State

It's back-to-back picks on offense as the Chargers push the need at edge rusher to another round and could instead add speed to the receiver room with Noel. He might not have elite size (5-foot-10, 194 pounds) but his ability to stretch the field vertically and win with quickness off the line of scrimmage would open up the Chargers' scheme.

Since they weren't going to get Ward I think they should've traded down and stocked up on more picks to use for positions of actual need.

I don't disagree but the Patriots wanted to trade down too but found no takers. That's much easier said than done.

If they could have gotten a future first like the Browns did they should have.

That would be an interesting pick for the Chargers. Noel mildly overlaps in profile with McConkey, but they do have a serious need at WR. Not sure how the board fell in his mock but I'd bet if they go WR they might look at someone in the mold of Tre Harris. But Noel could certainly be the deep and intermediate-to-deep-middle guy in someone's offense.

It's a pretty weak draft so you might be right.

I like Loveland better fit for the Bears. Better compliment to Kmet. Better route runner more dynamic than Warren I think.

I do think Loveland was TE1 in this draft. It really just depends on what you want out of the TE prospect, but Loveland will be the more complete prospect if you want a dude that can be elite in the passing game.

You'll hear alot about how the Big 10 had 11 1st Round draft picks last night. You won't hear alot about how all 11 were from Oregon, Penn St, Michigan, & Ohio St.

Rutgers, a Big 10 team, did not play any of those 4 teams last year. These aren't conferences anymore, they're scheduling alliances.
The other thing you won't hear is that the top 2 weren't from the Big 10 or SEC and that two of the top 8 were from the Big 12.

Crazy that Jeremiah Smith would probably be a top 5 pick if he was eligible this year (probably the 2nd-3rd pick), and he has to spend another 2 years in college.

With the NCAA getting killed on every single court case, basically not allowing them to have any rules at all because of their "monopoly", how the hell does the NFL still get away with requiring players to be in college for 3 years before they can go to the league?

You can't really compare the most powerful and influential sports league in the country to an organization that loses pretty much every case against them.

I hate these self-gratifying Tweets by scouting services a.) they’re counting 4-stars as “blue-chippers” b.) 81% of first-rounders being rated as 4/5 stars isn’t really that impressive

Show me how many 4/5 stars they ranked that won’t be drafted at all. I bet it’s 30-40%
How many 4/5* are there in 247 HS rankings? 250? So 80% of the 1st round picks are from a pool of 250 recruits? And the other 20% of 1st round picks are from the rest of the field, which is thousands of recruits? That's accurate talent evaluation.

Amazing how it's grown from this

I remember skipping college on draft day in the mid 80s and there were at best maybe 500 people in the balcony watching the draft live. ESPN would show anything back then, they needed the programing, so they started showing it. You could purchase the phone the team used making the pick at the draft in NY.
FYI, Mel Kiper sucked, even back then.

The Raiders need a WR so I'm hoping Higgins is available at 37. I would also be ok with Noel there. You add one of them and your weapons look like Higgins/Noel, Bowers, Jeanty, and Jakobi Meyers for Geno Smith and for Chip Kelly to get creative with on offense.

Big day ahead for some cyclone prospects. Excited to see where they will land. Selfishly hoping Porter falls to pick 97 to the Vikings

On average there are 30 to 35 five star recruit, 300 to 330 four star recruits. 2,000 three star and 400-500 two star. There are zero one star recruits.

There’s roughly 400-500 4-5 stars (around 11% of athletes ranked in 247per class). But keep in mind there are kids from multiple classes here (seniors, juniors, redshirts, Covid year kids, etc.)

So you actually have a pool of well over 1,000 kids who are 4-5 stars. And you can pretty easily identify a kid has NFL potential simply based on which schools are offering them. Give me the pool of kids Bama, Texas, Georgia, A&M, OSU, Michigan, Penn State, USC offered. I’ll rank them all 4-5 stars and probably get 80%+ of first round picks right

I certainly hope this is wrong and Noel slips to the Commanders. No chance Higgins slips that far, but if Noel slips then I'll have to buy his jersey and split time between wearing my Jayden Daniels and Jaylin Noel jerseys on Sundays in the fall.

Please be true!!!! I believe the last Cyclone for the Chargers was Tim Dobbins.

I'm really glad they say the year and sport for every pick otherwise I'd forget what I'm watching and when.
It's all about having that concise package for the future. They can use that clip for time eternal and it has all the information right in it. How many times last night did they show clips of draft announcements from past years and it was clear what pick, what year and who.
