Guess who else has a lot more money in the Big 10? Michigan, OSU, MSU, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland all really good to great bball history. Then you throw in the new schools like UCLA, USC (traditional lacking but RICH and desirable), and even Oregon.

Iowa isn’t competing with those teams on money.

True, but realignment is liable to change basketball hierarchy more than football hierarchy

In the future you’ll see more of this year SEC situations from the P2

A lot of P2 programs that can’t compete with the best of their “conference”, but have enough of an advantage in getting players and invites, that they move up in status over programs from other conferences.

Particularly after changes are made when the CBB tournament TV and CFP deals are up in 2032. If the other P5’s don’t like it, the P2 will lean into taking away sharing football, or just add top basketball schools and take more of the CBB Tournament shares

By 2032, we are moved down with respect to P2, if nothing else if the compensation sharing cap increases, particularly if NIL has to be FMV

WVU's AD answers the question:
We’re committed to doing what it takes to win and I think Coach DeVries knows that. We’ve had multiple discussions about what we need to do to make this program better, and he knows we’re committed to doing it. We’re committed to Coach DeVries and we’re committed to rewarding success and we´re committed to building this. I think ultimately he feels good about what he has here and I think the future is very bright for us.¨

Wren also said that Neal Brown was WVU football coach.

Devries might or might not be WVU hoops coach next year. But I wouldn't put anything into what an AD says.

Could just mean that Iowa has their guy. Leaks like this are common in the coaching hire process so a Coach who interviewed can save face.
This. Lots of people out there saying lots of things in terms of BG/Iowa's wishlist who really have no clue. Maybe DD was her #1 and she just didn't want to shell out. Maybe BM is her #1 and that's who she's going all-in on after the tourney. There've been a lot of assumptions that DD was the top guy when in fact nobody really knows.

If DD wasn't the top guy that an issue in-and-of itself. Iowa ties and a guy who had success at Drake and should have had a WVU team that was horrific last year into the tournament. Not to mention, Indiana and their endless resources appear to want him as well.

If BM was her #1, with all the risk that comes with that hire, that's an issue. It just doesn't make sense.

All due respect, I think she's probably in a better position to determine who her top guy is than you are, lol.

And maybe Iowa is being proven as not a great landing spot after initial discussions

Maybe. That's my point, nobody really truly knows but the running narrative is that DD is/was the #1 guy, and I think much of that is based on the fact that he's available immediately while BM has a tournament to coach.
Agreed. But if Drake bounces early and he’s WVu bound. Yowza.

If Jess Settles isnt being considered, I would be disappointed in Beth, and why isnt Beth talking to the public, is she scared? Is she one of those ladies that is 'my way or the highway'. Ferentz is gonna leave after this year if so and Iowa is going to be the bottom dwellers in the 2 big mens sports if she isnt careful. Someone needs to reign her in NOW.

Is it confirmed that DD was in Iowa City yesterday? The first person you have in for an interview 2 days after you fire your coach is the guy you are going to tell has to wait to see if Plan A doesn't come through?
