2025 Iowa's Best Burger

Big Head is awesome.

Great burgers, even better fries.

Not sure what's in their sauce but it's out of this world.
Never been but almost all burger sauces start with ketchup, mustard, mayo and relish. When I make it at home I use dill relish and Kewpie mayo opposed to standard sweet relish and non-Japanese mayo. Salt, pepper and maybe some garlic, paprika, cayenne, etc...

One thing about the great state if Iowa is the number of places that sell amazing burgers. Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and to me it passes the taste test with flying colors, I like Wallaby's Hickory Bacon Burger. MMMmmmmm.

Trouble anymore is finding a place that makes a great burger that doesn’t price it like a gourmet meal.

Dan's burger basket is 2 smash patties (1/4 lb each) with cheese, and LTOP on the side. Massive serving of fries. S11. Add bacon for another $1. It's extremely simple.

It's always 2 meals for me.

I like the 1/3 pound burgers. 1/2 is too much for me. Throw in a handful of waffle or steak fries and I finish it off but complain about eating too much afterwards.

A lot of the time we will split a burger between the two of us. Hate carrying around leftovers in the car and burgers never taste as good warmed up.

Only have had it once but Big Head is a fantastic burger. Wish they would upgrade their place a little bit

I think you're correct. It was in the restaurant too. That's a pretty rough reminder for everyone still running it and working there.
All this is correct. Also they lost their liquor license because of his multiple DUIs and there was maybe a domestic assault charge too.

It is sad when they first opened we really liked going there. Prior to losing their liquor license, they had a great Happy Hour prices. Winning the best burger I thought wasn't great for the restaurant. They become almost too popular. They cancelled the Happy Hour discounts, didn't really have enough seating for the popularity winning the contest and tried to shuttle people in and out, said they didn't like that people lingered for happy hour.

I think losing the liquor license hurt their business a lot, we had not gone back and when they first opened prior to winning best burger it was something we liked to go to often.

You metro peeps, don't sleep on the burgers at Cooper's on 5th.
Really, really solid.
We tried Coopers in Norwalk last week and I got their Chopped Cheese. It was excellent. They're still working out some service kinks, but it was a really good experience.

My best burger in the Metro is the University Library Cafe. It's perfect.

That's a shame. It was kind of a weird space. Small and with no windows, but that burger was fire.
Even when it was the previous restaurant that was semi upscale, I always wondered how it financially worked.
