They said the arena itself would be $1B and the surrounding complex of shops, hotels, etc would be another $2B$3B for a hockey arena in Texas? What are they doing? SoFi stadium cost $5.5B for reference. The Stars don’t play football.
Or…is this a play to get other events like the Big12 basketball tournament?

I would imagine the team would own the property. Businesses would then lease the buildings from the team. But the businesses would have the revenues. Team would collect rent. City would get taxes from the property (both a local tax and property tax)Who collects the revenue for those shops and hotels? Cause it sounds like the city is still on the hook for that additional $2B, but I didn’t hear anything in there about getting revenue from rent or property sales to recoup that. Sounds like their only benefit is a local tax.
So does all the revenue / rent from those shops and hotels go to the team?
