*** 2025-26 NHL Thread ***

Playoff hockey has been good. I've barely watched 10 minutes combined of any NBA playoff series. 20 years ago me would be in disbelief.
Agree. I too this season have probably watched the least amount of NBA (regular season & playoffs) that I ever have in my life.

Wild get a big road win and can close the series out at home in Game 6.

Bruins fight off elimination and beat Buffalo in OT to force a Game 6 in Boston.

Oilers all over the Ducks 3-0 after 1st period so looks like we will have a Game 6 back in Anaheim.
Buffalo up 3-2 but have lost 2 out of 3 at home while winning both games in Boston.

Dallas has 3 even strength goals in the series. That doesn't seem ideal. But their Power Play has been exceptional. Last night's officiating was the best of the series so far. Hopefully, that continues.

Dallas would be golfing right now if they didn't have a good PP.

McCarron has already shot the puck from this picture. And he scores on it 5 hole

It’s why I enjoy hockey. A split second changes everything

Why is the Canadian anthem sung before a game between Buffalo and Boston?
I was wondering the same thing. The only thing I could think of was Buffalo is just across the river from Canada and they might have a lot of fans from there.

I'm pretty sure every NHL game features both American and Canadian national anthems regardless of the city, because every team in the league has both American and Canadian players.
I just watched the opening to the Pens-Flyers game and they sang God Bless America but not the National or Canadian anthem.

AI Overview

The NHL does not strictly require both anthems for every game, but it is standard protocol to play both when a Canadian team plays a U.S. team (away team first). Only the home nation's anthem is played when two teams from the same country play, with the exception of the Buffalo Sabres, who always play both due to their proximity to Canada.
Key Anthem Protocols:
  • Cross-Border Games: When a Canadian team plays in the U.S. (or vice versa), both O Canada and The Star-Spangled Banner are performed.
  • Same-Country Games: Typically, only the national anthem of the home team's country is played.
  • Exceptions: The Buffalo Sabres are the only U.S.-based NHL team to play O Canada at every home game, regardless of the opponent, due to their proximity to the border and high Canadian fanbase.
  • History: The formalized practice of playing both anthems in cross-border matchups has been in place since 1987.

Canadiens get the road win to take a 3-2 series lead. It will be NUTS in Montreal for Game 6.

Felt like the Penguins controlled most of that OT but Flyers get the goal to win the Game & Series.

The next couple days are going to be insane for both the NHL and NBA. So many game 6s setup for a potential for a lot of game 7s. Never would have thought so many 1st round series would be this close heading into the playoffs.
