***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

So in five years, who will have had the better coaching hire from this year: Florida or LSU?

No Penn state. That is what I was asking. What did Penn State offer the BYU coach.
Ahhh got ya, and I have zero idea. Franklin already stealing Penn states lunch money at Va Tech. Whoever they do get as a HC will most likely be a step down from a recruiting ability standpoint regardless of NIL.

Brian Kelly was the first LSU coach in 25 years to not win a National Title. Saban, Miles, and Orgeron each had one in their first 3 years on the job. Kiffin will be held to that standard. His seat will be hot by 2028 if he has not won the SEC or reached the national semifinals.

Sumrall will be given time to right the ship in Gainesville, but to me he seems more geared to building a program for long term success than Lane is.

I think about 15 of you dumbed me when I said the clearinghouse wasn't going to do anything and is a sham.

Maybe I got that one right.... which makes me 2 for 68 I guess.

yep. I still say Kraft doesn’t survive the mess he has created for PSU.

Ehhh I think he’s probably ok but man if whoever gets hired has a rough start he is probably gone. I’m kinda shocked at how laid back they have been. They must have just thought the BYU situation was locked up and just didn’t really have a backup in place.

Whoever they hire now is going to be a desperation hire that will most likely set the program back a bit. Not having a HC for early signing is just an idiotic move.

I'm far from a lawyer but I believe part of Kelly's argument vs LSU is that the school's handling of his removal negatively affected his ability to get a new HC job elsewhere. The argument then is that LSU should owe him the full buyout as a result. If he takes the Penn State job right away, it would kneecap his own legal argument. (I think)
The new LSU President came out last week and went on record saying Kelly's dismissal was without cause and they owed him the entire $55M.

So that puts ball back on Kelly. He'll get a good job. Maybe he ends up in NFL as coordinator. He might be wise to wait a year for another college job.

Franklin having the last laugh.

But if Penn State poaches another schools head coach, all those recruits are back on the market.

Plus with the portal, maybe the new PSU HC puts his focus there for a year.

I'm not worried about PSU being able to attract players once a coach is hired.

Very good points, I just don’t see them getting a good P4 coach to come on board to bring that caliber of player. Time will tell but I have no idea who they get outside the current program

It’s almost like he thought the world would beat a path to his door after he fired Franklin. Also I can see a lot of coaches who might have taken the job say to themselves do I want the guy who fired the previous coach eight months after leading them to a playoff as my future boss?

Ehhh I mean Franklin had a very good tenure there but was notorious for being unable to win big games. Everyone lumped Penn state in with the big dogs but they have only had one big ten title in over 20 years, that’s less then MSU and tied with Wisconsin.

I do think they misread BYU’s ability to counter which to your point shows that the AD is in a rough place. If I was a BYU coach I too would stay instead of going to PSU

Edit* less then Wisconsin too

My understanding is that a lot of the wrestling programs are opting out of rev share (including Iowa St.) and continuing with their own collectives which fall outside Deloitte's purview if they have opted out. Its possible things have changed, but that was my understanding as of a couple months ago, someone more in tune with the wrestling world feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Iowa State wrestling opted in to Rev Sharing. Jamie has been very generous with the amount wrestling gets, Dresser just has to raise it

Maybe there was some truth about Bama's coach?

How about Virginia or Duke's coach. I've never been a big Manny Diaz guy. But the most important thing a HC can do is hire great assistants.

I doubt BYU's coach was the only big name they were talking to.

The AD at K-State is his best friend. Can't imagine him going that route.

I just think he's flat done with coaching and he'll work for the department in a fundraising/ambassador type role.
Shoot....i was liking the tailspin at KSU. When Klein left for AM wasn't sure if there was a backstory to that (vs retaining him), but i'm a bit nervous with him as the new coach....seems to know his stuff. Hopefully slow adjustment to head coaching and KSU can slip to the bottom half of the league.

There was rumor that Klein didn't like goldilocks at QB, but was under pressure from Kleiman / KSU boosters to recruit / play him so Klein just took the bag to go to the SEC. If thats true will be interesting to see who QB1 is next year.
