***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

So.... humor me here, in this hypothetical.

Say Franklin, who had a clause he had to at least attempt to get a new job, to offset his buyout, where any job he takes, PSU would have to pay the difference. Yes I know this didnt happen, and he negotiated a settlement etc.

But hypothetically...

Could he have kept that in his back pocket and went into a new school say VT, and say I will take $1 per year, saving that new school a ton of money that can be used for NIL, facilities etc. Which would then force PSU to pay him his full buyout, for years to come, less the $1, while working at VT. Therefore getting a huge leg up at VT, while still earning a massive paycheck.

I know this probably would never happen, and there is probably language in the contract to prevent this, but just a funny hypothetical that I think would be hilarious, if a coach wanted to be petty and there was no protections in the contract to prevent it.

I believe there was some language such as his new job must pay “market value” or something to deter this situation from happening. But would be quite the hypothetical to allow the new school to use that savings on assistant coaches or NIL

Yeah I am sure there is some wording or clause that prevents this, but would be quite the shaft if somehow they didnt.

But, that is why those lawyers get paid the big bucks to make sure none of these things get overlooked.

Agree. I could see someone like him not pushing for more knowing he'd get the offset if it helped assistants/facility needs. Maybe that's why the end of his contract is so much higher?

Either their search has gone very poorly for them or they've all but finalized with a sitting college coach and just waiting on the season to end.
Yeah I was kind of thinking more of that second half as well.
I just wonder if it'll be a bombshell hire or not

Listening to SiriusXM this morning and they sure seem to be hinting that the axe could be coming for FSU's Mike Norvell today. They said they have been "hearing things". Take it FWIW.

Isn’t his buyout like $60 mil? That’s a TON for a non-SEC or B10 team.

Somebody explain to me how $25+ million in "annual roster cash" works? I thought the rev share cap was $20.5 million per school across all sports. @brentblum ?

You can pay players actual NIL above and beyond whatever they’re getting from the revenue sharing pool, subject to approval by the independent clearing house. These amounts being thrown around for potential hires are likely sums of commitments schools have gotten from businesses

Assuming a good chunk of that is a commitment for outside NIL that meets the standard for market value endorsements set by the NCAA. But having the university so involved with those screams of manipulated no show deals. But as this is the SEC, I’d expect nothing less from them.

That's what I was thinking, too. We're going to guarantee multiple millions in NIL. Really? There is really that many millions in "fair market value" deals for LSU football players? I emphasize "fair market value."

Warby Parker type endorsement deals seem to be based on the names on the back of the uniform, not the front. So, this seems like a troubling guarantee to make. Wonder if the clearing house needs to get involved up front or if they’ll just let the contract fights happen later as they deny NIP deals.

Question I have is how things like jersey sales are counted. If the players get a cut for every jersey with their name and number on them, does that count to the university’s limit or as an outside NIL deal? So if a booster wanted to by 2,000 jerseys, does that fall under the clearing house jurisdiction? And what is a fair market value for a jersey with a name? Can LSU charge $500 and give the player $400 of that?

Guessing that we'll be seeing some shenanigans in this area come to light, especially from the SEC, in about 3, 2, 1...

Doesn't it seem really quiet on the Collin Klein front? Like oddly quiet?
You'd think he'd be getting talked about more.

Like, what's to say KState is kind of telling Klieman to think about moving on so they don't lose Klein to Arkansas, Okie St, etc?

Things are so quiet would seem like Penn State has their guy. My guess is their next coach has meaningful games left, so doesn't want to disrupt his teams season.

Bob Chesney of James Madison was discussed a lot early. Great track record, but he doesn't have ANY P4 coaching experience.

Now that Ryan Day has won title, would think his job is secure for next 4-5 years. Maybe Brian Hartline would consider moving on.
