***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

I want to say the shine is wearing off of lance, no reason to say otherwise, but a lot of KU fans aren't happy with him.
Having a booster throw 300 million at you certainly adds to the pressure of making sure you perform at a certain level

Dykes might be job hunting this off-season whether he wants too be or not

I don't know. Unless you absolutely have to (see Wisconsin) I think the 2nd and 3rd tier jobs would be much better off waiting for next year unless you have someone who you know will take the job (and is an upgrade)

For example, if you're Kentucky I don't know how you go another year with Mark Stoops but given all of the turnover that's going to happen in the SEC this year (Florida for sure, potentially also Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma, Missouri) might it make more sense to stand pat this year and if it fails again next year make the move when you're higher up on the food chain of potential openings.

I agree with this, but another year of standing pat, you could be even lower down the food chain than if you had made the moves originally

I hadn't looked at the schedule at Oklahoma. Yikes.

Nobody would do well against that but they've wanted rid of Venables for a while.

Which is also an interesting perspective for coaches: Do you stand pat at a place where you know you have solid job security for winning 8+ games consistently or try to move up to the next "tier" of teams where they aren't afraid to throw you to the curb as trash for "only" winning 8 games?

At Cignetti's age, stay where you are and keep being successful. No reason he cannot coach there for another decade and when he retires if the success continues they will be putting up a statue to him. If he had gone to Penn State he would always be compared to Jo Pa, at least on the field. The pressure at Indiana is nothing compared to that of Penn State.

It’s like you didn’t read my post because again, I said “left a better program in good standing” not didn’t pick one out of HS
I wasn't disagreeing with your premise, however "better program in good standing" would not in and of itself eliminate HS players. My interpretation of the qualifier in quotes is as follows: Miami is definitely the better program, and I don't believe they were under any NCAA scrutiny or issues with the coach. Also, I don't believe Hunter was under any duress or scrutiny for character or academic issues. He totally went for the bag to an undeniably lower tier program. Has it been widespread? No. Unfortunately, the better programs also tend to have the largest pile of cash. I more often than not agree with most of your takes, however, I think you are splitting hairs on this one as you just asked for an example.

Totally valid points, I probably didn’t do a good job explaining as it was part of the rest of the thread. My point wasn’t about HS players mainly because that’s pretty common, my point was about a college guy who is in good standing (starting, getting good mins, at a great program) throwing that all away to go to a lesser team. Think a starting QB/WR etc that leaves a bama or Georgia to go to Iowa for the bag. That kinda move

Iowa did lure Proctor away from Bama... for a couple months... he got the double bag! :D

I could be wrong here, is there big money, Mark Cuban I think putting $$$$ in Indiana sports?
Indiana has plenty of money, they also haven’t had to really pay a football coach in ages and basketball has fallen by the wayside. Don’t think they need Cuban for this but he does donate.

He’s also currently super pissed at the university so not sure if he would be doing this now

Better to be compared to Jo Pa, as opposed to Jerry Sandusky
