The spirit of NIL is to be able to use your likeness for advertisers or endorsements, not to play. To have a Venmo on your jersey is about as direct pay to play as you can get. Of course, the collectives have gone to a pay to play model with very little of the NIL requiring any sort of use of the athletes’ name, image, or likeness for anything beyond playing the games. I’m fine with the NCAA controlling what they can with NIL.
But it would be going directly to that specific Name, Image, or Likeness. Not some collective to then be divided up amongst the schools athletes.

But again. NIL is not supposed to be compensation for playing in games. It is meant to be that you can use your public persona for advertising and get paid for that.

They can certainly have a Venmo code as they walk around or do commercials for advertisers, but just not during the games.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why is it that Texas A&M seems like they try to give the illusion they are a military academy on TV? I know they are a weird school, but the announcers always say, “A good shot of the student section.” As they show a bunch of people all dressed like over-aged Boy Scouts?

I’d love for one of the service academies to troll them hard about what it means to wear a uniform as a cadet.

Houston … does not look good. I’m not talking about the uniforms. Those look quite sharp.

I know UNLV isn’t the 2021 version of UNLV - and some projections have it as G5 playoff contender. But … wow.

From a quick google, A&M was established as a military college (and was one until 1965) and is the largest single provider of commissioned officers to the US military outside of the service academies

Texas Tech might be in trouble against Abilene Christian. Up 4 with 5:10 in the third.
Tech up 11 now but plenty of time left. Houston is just bad at this point and that likely won’t change this year.
