NBA: *** 2024 NBA thread ***

If it's about win now and defense would you rather have package they got or jimmy butler and bam adebayo?

I don't think I'd be worried about win now. If you are shipping of Luka, you may as well check on the Kyrie market. You could stockpile a monumental haul of picks for those 2 and build with young talent like the successful teams are doing now.

First off you don't trade doncic In my opinion period. You can win now, 3 years from now 7 years from now he's that good. Having said that if they were in win now mode I really think a lineup of Irving, thompson, butler, Washington, and adebayo is as complete as there is in the West.

On BS podcast yesterday they kind of laid the case on why the Mavs zeroed in on the Lakers, but it still doesn’t make much sense to me.

The Mavs GM really values great post play (and has shown that by acquiring Gafford and drafting Lively). If you’re looking to dump Luka for an elite big, you only have a few options to get “equal” value: the Lakers (Davis), Bucks (Giannis), Denver (Jokic).

The Nuggets would absolutely not trade Jokic. Unlikely Doncic would sign extension with the Bucks, and the Mavs GM has a strong relationship with the Lakers, so he pursued that.

Still absolutely idiotic to me. But I guess that reasoning makes sense?

How do you see this Mavericks team with Luka vs with AD? I'm not talking about future ramifications just this current year. Are they better? I'm not so sure. They lost 1 of the 2 playmakers they had. AD is great when healthy no doubt but some of what they're gaining with him they already had defensively with Gafford/Lively.

Yeah I don’t know. I think the Mavs think they’re better. I think they’re delusional, but everything they’ve said publicly indicates to me, they really feel like they are a better team now than they were before.

I know Lively is hurt, but I didn’t really think the Mavs post play was a liability. Adding AD hurts their floor spacing imo, but they just acquired Caleb Martin maybe to try and help perimeter shooting.

If everything goes perfectly they might be but that's a maybe and that assumes AD and Irving stay available for the nba's grind of a postseason. They still have to get there too in the log jam of the west.

I have same thoughts and concerns. I struggle to see AD at the 4 and Gafford at the 5 in today's NBA but AD is adamant about playing PF.

I think this team will be really good defensively but offensively they're whole identity has just changed. I could see conference finals or I could see out in the play in. I don't believe they can win the West again

I've always thought LeBron could maximize his talent if he became more of a point forward as he aged, but he's been so shockingly athletic at 40 he hasn't really needed to. I think he definitely could excel at that if he wanted it. He's the kind of player with the skills to compliment any other player.

In some ways the trade has been a head scratcher for me (and most) but I'm not going to come out and say LeBron can't adapt and excel when he's probably the most versatile player ever. He's near his career highs for rebounding and assists right now.

AD has always been a conundrum, statistically an all time efficiency great, like top 5 or top 10 ever, and yet never seems like some unstoppable force destined for championships regardless of whom is around him (compared to say Joker who seems like he could have any cast in contention).

Saw that the warriors are trying to get Durant back. That would be something.

Wish they'd shop Steph around. They need to fully rebuild that roster and I had to think Steph's final years are spent on a ****** team. League is better when he's playing meaningful games.

Dang, this was Middleton's 12th season in Milwaukee

That's a lot for GS to give up.
Wiggins is a really solid player and YEARS younger plus all the extras.

Still interesting the Warriors inquired about Durant and he said no.
