Iowa could go 10-2 with no Top 25 wins. I agree with Blackledge that that wouldn't be good enough unless they give Ohio State a good game.
They’ve scored points against a team that’s currently in the top 25 this year, that’s progress

There are going to be a lot more wins...other than Ohio State I see them winning out...which is fine in theory for us...but just reinforces the idea that they benefit from a soft schedule more than anyone...almost every year!

Probably. They always seem to drop one they shouldn’t out of nowhere too.

Something along the lines of: "Their loss to Iowa State was so painful. If they can keep it close against Ohio State, even if they lose, then win the rest of their easy schedule, they will be in the discussion for the playoff."

Not necessarily wrong. The Big 10 is going to get their fair share of teams on name brand alone (whether they deserve it or not), and it's a soft conference.

Meanwhile, while UCF looks like more of a roadblock than they did a few months ago, KU looks dead in the water, and we still get to play Houston, Baylor, and Cincinnati. We very well could be 10-0 before we hit Utah and K-State - a two-game stretch that could determine who plays in Arlington.

My point is what might be Iowa's only two losses could be against two serious playoff contenders. In a soft Big 10 that's going to get their teams on "eye test" BS, it's a good look for them.

10-2 with no top 25 wins would get them nowhere near the play offs

The Big 10 is going to get their teams on name brand factor alone. If Iowa's 10-2 with their only losses being against potential conference champions and playoff contenders in Iowa State and Ohio State, it's not going to matter who they beat if they're behind only OSU in the standings.

I do hate that they legalized the push.

I think they did it just because it was too hard to call as a penalty (USC absolutely should have been penalized for pushing Reggie Bush in South Bend back in the day). It’s just not football when you run three big hosses into the back of the ball carrier and push him into the pile.

I don’t think you have to penalize it. Just treat it like a slide and say the ball carrier is down when the blocker makes contact with their backside. It’s going to get a QB seriously hurt at some point.

Should it? No.

Would it? Quite probably.
I hate to say it but a 10-2 Iowa team is probably getting in over a 11-1 Big 12 team (not ISU).

There are going to be a TON of politics when picking the at large playoff teams. The Big Ten and SEC are going to load up the playoffs due to their power and leverage. Remember, they again chose to use a committee who can manipulate metrics to get certain teams in instead of using an unbiased BCS like computer.

If Iowa plays a close(ish) game with Ohio State there’s still a chance for them if they win out. If they get creamed like they usually do against those teams, their playoff hopes are dead even if they win out.
