I understand why the statement was put out. I would guess there are fans who assume that UF will finish 0-3 and fans feel the Athletic Director should fire Napier now to get a head start on the coaching search like we have seen other schools do over the last few years.

But the statement wording can be interpreted Napier will be fired in 2-3 weeks. So just relax and let's support the student athletes because we don't want mass transfers in 3 weeks.

That $20M expense to pay players is a big deal. I don’t expect a flurry of coach firings this year if those coaches have huge buyouts. I expect Aranda and Neal Brown to return too.

Even for B10 and SEC schools, that expense is going to hurt their budgets in the short term.

I was hoping WV would can Brown to try and bring in Jimbo and see the firestorm.

It's been a little quiet on the coaching turnover front. I would think the most disgruntled fan bases are at Florida and Florida State, but I can see both AD's waiting a year.

The jobs that I could see turnover are:
  1. Coaches "retiring" with Brown @ UNC and Gundy @ OSU
  2. Coaches fired for under performance with Locksley @ UM
  3. Schools that might "encourage" current coaches to look elsewhere. "Get out while the reputations are still OK" - Riley @ USC and Franklin @ PSU
IMO next year could be a volatile year with: Stoops @ UK, Venables @ OU, Napier @ UF, Norvell @ FSU, Walters @ Purdue
 
I feel like Baylor and WVU will hold onto their coaches if they finish around .500 this season. With all the uncertainty regarding NIL and paying athletes AD's might want to be patient instead of paying buyouts for existing coaches.

Obviously the Big10 and SEC will play by different rules. Drunken sailors always have enough cash in their pockets.
 
The timing of when you fire your coach is also important. There is an automatic 30 day transfer window after school announces they have fired their head coach. If you fire the coach during the season, this window opens up during the season.

I think NIL is going to play a huge factor in coaching turnover. AD's won't be able to afford the massive buyouts (firing and hiring). Once NIL goes to the AD, they will be hesitant to use funds to fire a coach.

We are very fortunate that we have successful coaches that hopefully plan to stick around. Having a lame duck coach that you can't afford to buy out would be a rough situation.

I think this will be true to an extent long term. For the next year or two, where they already have cash outlayed for existing projects, even the blue bloods would probably struggle with a huge buyout given the unexpected $20M+ expense kicking in next year.

I actually have first-hand knowledge of one B10 school (not Iowa), who’s definitely sweating that $20M

Feel like UNI needs to hire a coach that runs the program similar to a JUCO. Obviously academics standards are higher but they need to embrace if they have a really good player he might move up in a year or 2 to a higher level and that ok. They have the opportunity to do they same things for standouts in D2 and D3. Really need an innovative coach that embraces the current environment. Very important hire for this program.

UNIs biggest problem is that it went from the no doubt best job in the league to probably the 6th best through absolutely no fault of their own over the time Mark was here.

Chris Winter (Wartburg)
Todd Hoffner (Minnesota State)
Curt Wiese (Minnesota Duluth)
