***2024-2025 NCAA FB coaching carousel***

Could be Bieniemy was putting out feelers to return to NFL and UCLA caught wind of it and canned him. If I'm Foster I would want coordinators committed to being at UCLA as it's a more than 1-2 year rebuild school.
Maybe? That might be it but also, I wouldn't think he'd have a ton of options.

Was not a success at Washington outside of KC
Was not a success at UCLA

Its not like he's a hot ticket right now

Agree with all of this...however, his mistake with Washington was going there in the first place...Rivera was bound to be fired so it was going to be a no-win situation regardless.

His only other option was to stay with Reid forever, which is a cushy gig but if he had aspirations of something more (he obviously did) he needed to go somewhere else where he could actually call the plays.

I think the evidence has clearly shown that while he may have been a valuable member of the Chiefs coaching staff, he doesn't really have what it takes to be an OC on his own.

Oh boy they must have been documenting some dirt on him if they think they can fire with cause, and not pay him his $25M buyout

College Athletics is such a sad business. You have a guy lead your football program for almost 20 years. You obviously both see great successes. Then at the end the school tries to blackmail said coach to get rid of him.

Gundy is no angel either. He's flirted with about every big job for years to continue getting contract extensions.

Oooof that could get ugly fast.

Their plan is to get him to reduce his salary to reallocate those funds to NIL. If he doesn't, fire him for cause. Sure seems like those two trains of thought set up a fun legal battle.

As CW/Blum have been saying... long gone are the days of these increasing contracts/buyouts for coaches. Even more so if a program like Ok State is willing/needing to tear down Gundy in order to make ends meet.

Fayetteville isn't far from Stillwater. I bet they'd like to have him at Arky.

Welcome to the world of coaching.

I'm not saying every coach "flirts" but 90% or higher will let their AD know that "hey, so and so reached out to me. I like it here and want to stay...." and then let the AD finish the sentence and fill in the zero's. I'm not saying I love it, but all of Gundy's quirks, that ones more tame.

as for coaches buy outs, don't talk to Indiana. Who is now making $8 million a year, $1 million bonus every year he remains the HC at Indiana, his buyout starts at 85% of his contract and includes 11 million for assistants.

Some of these athletic budgets just do not work as well without winning.
T Boone Pickens used to be the HUGE benefactor of the program and he died in 2019. I am not sure whether the foundation will continue giving money to the program but this was the last one and I don't think the foundation can truly compete in this NIL with him no longer alive.
