2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

Four new teams = four worst teams.

I think this ranking is possibly a little optimistic given our huge turnover this season, but I haven't looked closely at the other teams yet.
Fast forward as Colorado, Arizona schools, and Utah come into the BIGXII.

TCU and TTU are like thank god we're not the basement anymore. LoL

I'd say I'd be surprised if she were going full tilt now rather than the slow-mo or even being withheld for a while. You make perfect sense.

Stress injuries (if we assume that is what this is) have basically only one real treatment, time and rest. I'd suspect she might not be going hard in practice at all this season, or at least not as hard as she might have in the past or as hard as she wants to go.

I think returning a veteran point guard and adding a proven Div I level post really helped. Maybe shows some respect for the recruiting class with coaches maybe thinking some of these gals can contribute (they will have to if we are to finish in the top half. Also, the league isn't looking that daunting.

This is right where I thought ISU would be. Everyone above them brings back proven players. ISU is really in the "Ryan and some great recruits" range. In other words…they just don’t know. For some reason I’m very optimistic about this team mainly because of the TYPE of recruits that joined the program. They bring in strong leadership and grit.

Where WASN"T Mac this weekend. Man, he was everywhere!

I’m just not as enthusiastic as most of you seem to be as I haven’t gotten over the defections of Lexi and Denae. I just don’t think Emily can carry the team on her back, plus she has the nagging injury concerns. We have no idea what Isnelle can do, nor three of the five freshman. I’m convinced Bristow will be a star and Brown a solid contributor, but my conclusion is the women are probably a year away, assuming CBF can curb the disturbing transfer trend. I genuinely hope I’m wrong but think we’ll be hard-pressed to card a top-half finish in a mediocre Big XII. If we sneak in to the NCAA tournament, CBF will have earned his bonus…

I tend to be optimistic but we have concerns that will impact and limit the season. If Em is slowed or injured, it could be grim as ball handling will be questionable outside her from the onset. Then we will be dealing with talented, albeit, freshmen players who often are less effective at controlling game outcomes. Our strengths are size and Em. Is that enough to nurse us into the season and then continue to develop so we can get to 18+ games? We could do better than okay with the likes of incoming talent and transfers but who knows? In less than a month we get things rolling so I am staying tuned.

I might feel the same as those two defections bothered me as well. But I’m very high on the freshmen. We have greater depth at post than in a long time. We have more shooters. We have young folk that are proven leaders. Incredible talent on this team. Will they likely falter a few times because of the inexperience? I’d say yes. But I’m still thinking this team finishes upper half in the conference and has 18-22 wins. I guess I just have this feeling which I’m not used to having.

The women's volleyball team is great fun to watch this season and they're getting massive contributions from a pair of true freshman, so why not basketball? The volleyball team is dominated by underclassmen with an enigmatic leader (Morgan Brandt) - let's hope hoops follows the same model.

I think Emily/Diew alone is probably enough to finish in the middle of this incarnation of the big 12 unless we have a LOT of growing pains with the freshmen and/or one of those two afore mentioned get hurt. I'm very excited for this team as I think these freshmen are going to be a blast to watch play (and I hope we see a lot of them getting that playing time with the reduced expectations of the season).
