2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

"Fennelly said it’s too soon to say if Ryan, the biggest key contributor returning to the team from a season ago, would miss any games in the upcoming season. "

That doesn't fill me with confidence...
Sure would like to to know who started at the point during their trip, but I guess that is ‘need to know’ information.

What worries me more is the loss of development of the team's relationships and leadership in the preseason build-up. I bet she will be ready to go at the season start in my opinion.

Not that those exhibitions matter but if Ryan isn't ready to go wouldn't it have to be Arianna Jackson? Realistically, who else could it be?
Jackson and Dawkins are really the only two options I see. A true freshman and a sophomore who played 62 total minutes last year.

Top assists on the team last year:
Ryan
Donarski (gone)
Ashley (gone)
Fritz (gone)
MEM (gone)
Kane (gone)
Soares (gone)
Diew

471 assists last season. Ryan had 204. Other returning players had 20 (Diew 15, Zingaro 3, King 2, Dawkins 0).

I'm hearing stress fractures and she's having a hard time following recovery protocols, as in the gym rat doesn't know how to rest. All around bad deal for Emily and the young team which needs her veteran leadership.

Kelsey Joens was a primary ball handler in high school, so she might be another option along with Jackson & Dawkins.

I don't generally get sucked into the way to early stuff and have a tendency to think of Creme as nothing more than a carnival barker even just prior to selection show but saw a thread on another board and took a peek.

Baylor 4
Texas 5
KSU 6
Kansas 8
OU 10
OSU 10
TCU 11

No ISU. I would put us in if you are putting OU, OUS and TCU in as double digit seeds.

I saw his first try and I agree with you that he shows us no respect but when what happened losing the players we did not surprised. copy the article and put on the wall for the team to see everyday and challenge them to make him regret his slight of the team

I think .500 in league gets you in from a P5 and as weak as the league looks, in IMHO, we can do .500 if Ryan is 100% and we avoid injuries.

People are going to underestimate this team due to inexperience. If Ryan gets the group to jell they are going to finish top third of the conference. This team will have more fire power than last year and the posts will be an improvement (post injury). Also will be more quality depth. All you have to do is look at Ryan’s freshman year and what the fresh performed like and then amp it up even more.

We won't know much till early conference for sure. Ryan's freshman year we had Joens, Johnson and Scott as experienced anchors, all with Big 12 starter experience. Plus Maggie and Wise. We added four freshman to the mix. This season we are adding SEVEN new players.

I am optimist on the talent but don't want to get too far ahead of myself in expectations. .500 in league play might be pretty good.

That is true, but the freshmen all stepped in and had major roles. We do have experience on this team in upper classmen…they just haven’t played together. That’s why I qualified my statement with Ryan getting them to gel. Going to be fun to watch.

I think our schedule lines up to get to at least .500 in league play. We get some good teams that only play at our house and most of the away-only games are against not great teams...other than Texas.

This is sort of where I align, it's not a killer schedule. We are pretty experienced at PG and post, assuming Ryan is 100%. Hopefully, even if Ryan is ready for N/C, Jackson can get some minutes at PG early versus some of the less daunting competition. I don't think we want to see Ryan playing 35 minutes a game coming off a stress injury and not wanting a reoccurrence.

How the forwards and guards progress will probably tell how far we can go this year. Without seeing any of them play I'd hope for 9-9 but wouldn't be disappointed in 8-10. If the league turns out to as weak as some project than plus .500 is certainly in the mix. Sort of hard to predict with seven newbies, maybe easier to see what we might have by end of December or after 5 or 6 Big 12 games.
