Green would for sure start over Gabe. He's the back-to-back MVC player of the year. He would instantly be our best shooter by a landslide.

I think it would come down to losing some Defense for better offense.

I don't think AJ Green is a slouch on defense by any means.

His offensive consistency out weighs Gabes for sure and may be a little drop off on defense. You'd have to start Green, IMO.

Now, does Gabe come back if he knows this? Doubtful.

Gabe absolutely loves Iowa State. I think he would. He would just be 6th man.

That's good.

He can love us but how would he feel about being a 6th man? Maybe he'd be mature enough about it.

You can still be the 6th man and play 25/30 mins a game.

A lineup change of Lipsey, Grill, Gabe, Jaz / King / Enaruna, and Jones (?) / someone else would be pretty fun. Replacing Hunter, Green, Brockerington (?), Jaz / King, Transfer Post

AJ Green is an absolute stud guys. He isn't coming off the bench. If he is indeed coming here to make a run with his Dad Im sure everything will work itself out. Either IZB/Gabe decide to move on or you start four guards (Hunter, Kalscheur, Green, Brockington). We play four guards pretty regularly this year.

Throw in King / Jaz as the 5 and that small ball lineup is deadly.

Yeah this scenario feels more likely to me. IF (and this is a huge if) IB and AJ Green are in Ames next year Gabe would probably come off the bench. Having an elite defender coming off the bench would absolutely be great.
I don't think there needs to be much discussion about anyone going to the bench. Doubt IB comes back, but hope Gabe and Kunc do.

Sit King, go small. If you can get a legit 5 in the portal, you start him with the other 4 and platoon with whatever bigs return. Grill, King and one of the frosh are your reserves at the 2-4. Green and Gabe can spell Hunter at the point.

I feel like Hunter, Gabe and IB are locks to be starters. Green is great and I'd love to have him but I don't think he bumps either of those 3. If anything, he accepts a smaller/more specialized role to come join a team that just went to the Sweet 16 and reunite with his dad. I think him being promised any kind of starting role would mean TJ is looking to go small.
MVC POY would definitely start for a team like us that struggles scoring.
