NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

I really dislike Bayless but it's a legit question and he even mentions how the outcome seems irrelevant with what happened. He could have worded better but it's Skip Bayless. I'm surprised he was that eloquent.

Meh. It's not the most offensive or dumbest thing he's ever said or written, but that's a really low bar to clear. It's a legit question, but it shouldn't have been his lead.

It’s not a legit question when you don’t even know if this human being is going to live or die.

Hey skip why not just not tweet garbage like that. He can F off. Why not tweet hope this young man to be okay.
I'm one that didn't read his message as offensive originally - figured it was an honest thinking out loud by sportscaster type of thing - but it wasn't needed either. In these situations, you either come across as heartless or as human. In most instances, he'll find a way to do the former so I understand people calling him out.

People are always looking for a fall guy to put blame on these days. IMO, ESPN and the NFL handled this unprecedented situation just fine.

All that matters is Damar Hamlin's health at this time. Hopefully the immediate top-notch care was enough.

Call this game a no contest, give both the Bills and Chiefs a first round bye, remove the last wild card, none of those teams deserve it anyway, AFC championship at a neutral site.

The tricky spot the NFL is in is Buffalo gets the bye if they beat Cincinnati but if the game isn't played and KC beats Vegas KC gets the bye.

Ideally for the league, either NE beats Buffalo or Vegas beats the Chiefs and then they don't have to worry about this game.

It's a difficult thing, and there really is no right or wrong answer, but I think you have to keep moving forward.

My thoughts and prayers are literally with the young man and his family, and stopping that game from moving forward this week is the absolute right thing. But the game has been dangerous for 100 years and will be for 100 years. I know it's a horribly traumatic event, but not playing games this week doesn't accomplish anything big picture or change that. It's going to be as dangerous 2 weeks from now as it was last night. If anything, it brings attention back to the topic and discussion of safety and his life/mission/healing.

Obviously there is the other angle that you want players, coaches, fans, etc to take time to process everything, but that should be done in other ways as well - counseling options, education, discussions, etc. If the players or coaches asked for the time, then sure I fully support people needing that. But if they didn't or don't collectively ask for a full week delay to the schedule, then that's different.

I don't know, it's hard to say because there is no right or wrong. As a society we've set precedence with horrible events moving out of view too quickly and expecting things to go back to normal and I guess I don't see why this would be different if that's the way we do it. I don't support it on those other things (school shootings, stabbings on NYE in NYC, etc) but it's been that way so I have a hard time treating this differently.

Will be interesting to see how all the teams/coaches/players react. If all games go on as scheduled...will some teams push back and say no? Will players individually opt to not play?

Right. Assuming KC and Buffalo win this weekend, then the only scenario that helps the Bills is if they resume the game. Which of course would require rearranging the whole playoff schedule.

Unless the NFLPA steps in and request the games be pushed back, the schedule should remain. I doubt that the players association would do that. Players on playoff teams want the rest after the regular season and those not making the playoffs want the season to be finished so they can be with family and some might even have medical procedures scheduled right after the season.

Outside of the Bengals/Bills how does this really even effect others?

Is it a sad, deal? Of course it is. By all accounts, it was a fluke deal that happened.

I don't understand the takes of people saying Week 18 needs cancelled and the whole season/playoffs needs pushed back.

Agreed.
And not to be crass, but Hamlin isn't dead. Did he suffer an horrific injury? Yes, absolutely. But he's still fighting. Many of us have had coworkers get injured or die suddenly. I definitely have in my career. And it's tough, and sobering, because one day, you're saying "see you tomorrow" as you head out to the parking lot, and that's the last time you ever talk to them. But even then, the band plays on. You don't forget, but you don't bring everything to a screeching halt, either. If individuals who are having a particularly rough go want to hit pause, themselves, that's fine, but the world does not stop.

This is where I am. Everyone refusing to talk about the playoffs or football generally almost because of this sad event. A million more horrific things happen in this world every day and the world does not stop. The 'players give their life' thing was also out of hand yesterday. Again, lots of jobs far more dangerous, and oh yeah, paying 48k per year.
