NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

The Deshaun Watson deal is fascinating.

The first year, his salary is only 1.5 million with a 44.5 million dollar signing bonus, so if/when the league suspends him, he'll only lose 88,000 per game check he misses. And he can't have his signing bonus or future guaranteed money voided by anything related to his current legal proceedings. So basically even if the league decided to bring the hammer down, and suspend him for the whole year (they won't) it will have minimal effect on him monetarily.

Every other year is $46 million fully guaranteed, which seems like a lot, and is a lot, but by 2026, when it expires, will be eclipsed multiple times by other QB deals.

Sure would be a shame if the nfl took a whole year investigating him and then suspended him

They're not going to do that though. The Browns are going to force the issue and attempt to start him, and the NFL will be forced to act. The NFL wants this to go away. They're not going to call attention to it.

At this time last week, the Saints were probably feet optimistic. Gotta be a little bit of a blow to their ego, now. No Watson, and Jameis is the starter.

Throw in Brady coming back to the division, and they're a lot closer to a rebuild than a playoff run

I hate to break it to you, but Kirk Cousins is not going to lose his job. He just signed an extension. He's not going anywhere. If you've got Tennessee and Ryan Tannehill as a locked in #1, you should move Cousins up there as well. Their status and contract situation is pretty similar

I really like that trade for the Colts. Not saying the Colts win the Super Bowl, but this feels very similar to what the Rams did getting Stafford.

I don't pay too much attention to the Vikings, but I figured with a new coaching staff and front office, that puts him on a little shakier ground. But I honestly forgot about his extension, so your point is valid.

Its basically the same thing Indy did with Rivers a few years back. Ryan is just 2 years younger now than Rivers was at that time.
