2021 Breakout Player

It is scary to think how many realistic breakouts there could potentially be on offense (Scates, Noel, Silas, Jirehl). Couple that with Brock reaching his potential higher ceiling and this offense will be insane.

I think the majority of WRs are primed for a breakout, could really pick any of these dudes: Jaylin Noel, Daniel Jackson, Joe Scates.

Defensively, gotta say Dae Dae.

I'm hoping it is one Brock Purdy. He is already great, but I would love to see him step into first-round draft status.
If we were to win the Big 12 and make the playoffs that needs to happen. Brock needs to take care of the ball and lean on his weapons and elite offensive line. We can't have one of those turnover riddled games and lose to an inferior opponent because of it. That being said, he is the best to ever do it at Iowa State. I agree there is another gear there he could hit though.
I just hope his receivers can get separation quickly and Brock gets rid of the ball quicker!

Scates certainly has all the physical tools to be a standout. I can't remember if it was Scates or Shaw or both that kept forgetting to step off the line when the TE shifted up to the line. It seemed like it happened 5-6 times last year. I know at least one TD was called back because of it. That is the kind of stuff that will keep you off the field.
And this is the kind of stuff that gets you on it.

Not an underclassmen, but I'm looking forward to a healthy Milton. He had a solid sophomore season, and then was hurt most of last season, but I expect him to take it to another level this season and really give us a 1-2 punch with Hutchinson.
Before he got hurt, Milton was going in motion pre-snap on a lot of plays. I hope that doesn't happen much this year. Gotta line him in the slot and let him use his speed over the middle. His speed can force defenses to keep at least one safety deep and will open up a lot of other options offensively.

I think TJ Tampa will have a breakout season. If Kyle and Young struggle opposite Anthony Johnson then I could see Tampa getting some reps at that corner spot.

Hopefully it's Scates. The dude has so much talent and speed to go with his size and strength. We need a legit deep ball threat to help space things out a little more on offense. If Scates makes that huge jump this year, Purdy could put up 4,500+ yards.

After reading the comments from Breece Hall and listening to Xavier Hutchinson at media day I think Scates is in for a monster year. Hall, Kolar and Hutchinson will demand a lot of attention. Scates is going to see a lot of single coverage.

Side note: I know the outside perception and noise is that Iowa State is going to drop off a ton after this year. The idea of a receiving corps in 2022 of Scates, Jackson and Noel has me fired up. Jirehl Brock is going to be a stud hes highly regarded recruit stuck behind Breece. Campbell has said over and over Easton Dean is the most talented TE they've ever had. I dunno the pieces are there.

Don't forget that 2022 will also return a good amount of o-linemen with playing experience. The 2022 defense is what worries me a bit.

If Joe Scates has a huge, breakout year this year, he goes pro. Zero doubt in my mind.

Someone else will simply step up.

If the run game is reliable, which it should be, defenses are going to be pretty F'd because Hall out of the backfield even in a dump off is solid chance for some good chunk yardage.
