NFL: ***2020 NFL Draft Thread***

Buy low, sell high. How many years did we see where RB's dominated the first round? Now the Super Bowl winners got to pick the best of the crop this year. That's not overvalued. Contracts are another story.

Old data but this shows RB is the 10th highest position, just ahead of OG. https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/gallery/nfl-position-importance-ranking-value-every-player-053117

I have no problem with taking a RB early - maybe not top ten or anything, but for where they got him and how good he is CEH is a good value pick for the Chiefs. For the next few years, anyway. As soon as he starts making noise about a new contract it's time to move on. Draft running backs and get your money's worth, but don't re-sign them. There's exceptions to the rule - McCaffrey in Carolina is the pulse of that offense, and Saquon will get a payday from the Giants. But by and large RBs just aren't worth the investment of a second contract. Most of them can be replaced for a fraction of the cost in the draft.

Why are we not talking about Kliff Kingsbury's pad?

Is that the house from Parasite?

I thought he'd go late 1st, but not shocked that he didn't. There were a few headscratcher picks in there. It's not like there have been a bunch of other edge guys taken ahead of him, just Young, I guess you could count Chaisson but he's more OLB than DE, still a stud regardless. Other positions have been the priority. I was kind of surprised the OT that AJE abused in the bowl game went at 18. Giants are up at #36, would love if he landed there.

I just was not overall thrilled with the Dolphins picks. I sure hope they prove me wrong.

I like that they didn't panic trade up to make sure they landed Tua. That's a win in and of itself. The Austin Jackson pick at 18 was maybe a bit of a reach. I didn't mind the defensive back pick at 30. Seems like a bit of a luxury with Byron Jones and Xavien Howard already in place, but he could be an eventual replacement for Howard and in the meantime that's a pretty good group of corners.

I'm not grasping at anything. Read my post again - I'm as disappointed in the pick as anyone. My point was that regardless of what anyone says, responsibility begins and ends with Gutekunst (and, to a lesser degree, LaFleur).

If Rodgers doesn't understand that the team needs to begin thinking about his replacement soon, he's myopic, and selfish. And how can you begin to know what the future success level of the Packers is?
I get it, you’re going through the stages of grief.

“They couldn’t have made this bad of pick, they’re jobs depend on making good picks”. Good luck with that fallacy, and fired GMs everywhere say high.

Of course it’s their responsibility. NO ONE has claimed otherwise. That doesn’t mean anything in regards to the quality of the pick.

Again, Rodgers, and everyone, understands that’s why they drafted Love. The question/criticism is whether that trading up to draft Love was the way to execute that. It’s trading fairly certain near term success for hopefully similar success in the future, and regardless of how great you think your evaluations are, the opportunity cost on Love isn’t likely to be worth it. The math doesn’t checkout.

The best GMs handle their responsibilities by first acknowledging that their evaluations are likely to be wrong, hence more picks via trading down

They could use an upgrade at safety, so I'm surprised they passed on McKinney. I wonder if they plan on playing the kid they drafted at safety. I actually had them taking Jackson at 18. I love that pick. He's not quite up there with those top 4 tackles, but he's a great football player and should have a hell of a career.

As far as Green Bay's pick goes, I was surprised. Queen would have been a great pick, or Cole Kmet even. Coaches and GMs are not given very long to succeed in the NFL nowadays so a lot of teams think "win now." As a Vikings fan, I hope Love is a bust.

Speaking of the Vikings... what do we want with today's picks? I'm hoping Curtis Weaver is available at pick 58. He would be a great replacement for Griffen. In round 3, we need o-line. Maybe use both 3rd rounders on o-line, or use one pick and then take a safety with the other. I'm still pretty pumped from the Jefferson pick last night. Would also be excited if we were able to get Winfield Jr. if he is available but Weaver is off the board.

I thought it was a great pick by KC with CEH! They have Williams for 1 more year and then grabbing CEH in the first you control him for 5 years which is about the life of a RB. If he is still producing at a high clip maybe franchise him for a year and move on. He is perfect for what the Chiefs do and will be another weapon. I am very happy with this pick but also would have been happy with a versatile defensive player hopefully they can get one in the second.

Your condescending tone makes me wonder if you really are a Packers fan.....the vast majority that I've met aren't that way.

What the heck kind of "grief" do you think I'm suffering? Do you realize that GMs make picks based on the future, also? This was a hallmark of Thompson's tenure (for better or worse, his draft acumen is still in question), and apparently Love was a player they didn't feel they could turn down.

I'm not defending the trade up, either. I understand that you're pissed about this, or the topic would have died a merciful death earlier this morning. I simply think the media and the fans are making a great deal more of this than it really deserves.

Let's change the subject.....I talked with a buddy this morning, he and I are both of the opinion that Gutekunst may try to trade up again tonight to pick a receiver. What are your thoughts about the rest of this draft?

I think that depending on what type of WR you want there will still be several very good prospects available tomorrow. I'd look to address other positions first.

I'm still sorry they didn't take Queen. The biggest area of need, and they had a guy who is probably a Day 1 starter. And a stud, to boot.
