NFL: ***2020 NFL Draft Thread***

Rodgers may be disappointed that Gutekunst didn't add some WR help, but he of all people will understand the situation regarding a replacement QB. He went through several years of absolute hell before the fans came around.

Love is a huge risk/reward pick. I was really bummed last night, because the guy I wanted (Queen) was there - probably would have been a plug-in starter from Day 1, at a position of huge need.

But I'm not the GM, either. I understand you other NFC Norris guys dumping all over the Pack on this thing.....but they are still, regardless of what happens the rest of the weekend, in better position to win the division than anyone else.

Rodgers brings a lot of criticism upon himself, but would you really rather have Cousins? Or Trubisky?

I’m a Packer fan and you’re grasping at straws. This was a bad pick.

It’s putting the cart before the horse. Yes, you don’t want to completely mortgage the future by 100% prioritizing the next couple years, but if you’re close with a QB you think has at least a few years, you don’t trade up to get a project, risky QB. If they’re lucky, Love in a few years is the QB Rodgers is now.

This isn’t Farve in 2005. And it isn’t about Rodgers not understanding. He’s smart enough to realize the GM just reduced his future success in GB.

Don’t love it but CEH is a Perfect fit for the Chiefs.

Would’ve liked Fulton, Delpit or McKinney

I love the pick and RB was a definite need. They were amazing last year and didn't really have a RB they could rely on. And Andy Reid likes running the ball. Plus this was a best available pick I think. Running Backs have been so undervalued lately. They had the first pick of any RB they wanted with the last pick of the night. Some nice value there.

You that disappointed that you are crying that Stanley is still on the board yet or that Espenesa still is?

I guess you could always use Love as trade bait down the road if Rodgers shows no signs of slowing down, but even then you kind of shot yourself in the foot regarding your chances to contend right now. The Packers were a good team last season and there were some guys still on the board who could help them right now.

Maybe it all works out, but I don't know. It looks like a huge gamble by Gutekunst.
Agreed. It upsets the apple cart on a team that was in the final 4 last year. Like others have said, their window was thought to be pretty open.

It had been 15 years since the Packers have picked an offensive skill position player in the first round. And when they finally did, they used it on a guy who probably won't see the field for 2 years minimum. This isn't just a wake-up call to Rodgers that the team is thinking of the future, it's an active rebuke of him.

What are the actual needs though? Really seems like WR is the only weak point now. So you still have multiple opportunities to get good picks in the draft with the deep WR class. The defense really seemed like it was playing well by the end of the year.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see Rodgers playing much past the next couple years anyway.

I'm not grasping at anything. Read my post again - I'm as disappointed in the pick as anyone. My point was that regardless of what anyone says, responsibility begins and ends with Gutekunst (and, to a lesser degree, LaFleur).

If Rodgers doesn't understand that the team needs to begin thinking about his replacement soon, he's myopic, and selfish. And how can you begin to know what the future success level of the Packers is?

That's a reach. If you actually believe that, I can understand why, as a fan of a rival team. But Gutekunst and LaFleur aren't that stupid. They know Rodgers is their only chance to win a championship for the foreseeable future.

The rush defense wasn't fantastic. Bottom 10 in yards per attempt and rushing tds allowed. They were very good at takeaways, though. That's why I thought Queen made so much sense. I thought for sure that's who they were going to take.

I mean, this is Aaron Rodgers we're talking about, right?

According to Gutekunst, himself, he hadn't spoken to Rodgers about the Love pick. Your franchise player. Their "only chance to win a championship". They didn't talk to him before taking another QB with a first round pick. You don't have to be a fan of a rival team to see that as a slap in the face

Nah, I love a good cry.

Did you think Espenesa would get taken in the first round? I think he will be taken in then next 5 picks. I would like to see him fall to the Dolphins with the 7th pick, but I don't think he will last that long once the second round gets started.

Since when? Andy Reid is notorious for giving up on the run game early and often.

Also, RB's undervalued? Some day the NFL will learn not to invest significant draft capital or cap room to the RB position but that day certainly hasn't come yet. Just look at the contracts that have been going around out there. NFL teams still over value RBs in my opinion.

I thought he'd go late 1st, but not shocked that he didn't. There were a few headscratcher picks in there. It's not like there have been a bunch of other edge guys taken ahead of him, just Young, I guess you could count Chaisson but he's more OLB than DE, still a stud regardless. Other positions have been the priority. I was kind of surprised the OT that AJE abused in the bowl game went at 18. Giants are up at #36, would love if he landed there.

Buy low, sell high. How many years did we see where RB's dominated the first round? Now the Super Bowl winners got to pick the best of the crop this year. That's not overvalued. Contracts are another story.

Old data but this shows RB is the 10th highest position, just ahead of OG. https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/gallery/nfl-position-importance-ranking-value-every-player-053117

I think he's great value at this point. From what I understand teams aren't in love with him as an edge rusher but he could step right in as an edge-setting run stopper and stay there for a long time. High floor/low ceiling prospect.
