call the dodgers a ‘big money team’ all you want but who exactly have they ‘bought’? ... over half their roster is homegrown talent

Small market teams would love to have Dodger money to resign their star players. The homegrown spin is nice, but it only puts them a notch above the Yankee$
To answer your question-- MVP Mookie was a pretty significant buy.

I completely agree small market teams would love dodger money, but lets not act like the dodgers have been writing useless checks.

Did they sign harper? Machado? How about cole? Surely they got rendon, right? What about strasburg? ... no they didnt sign a single one of those big name free agents.

Also, do your homework, they didnt buy Mookie. They traded for him and david price. They signed mookie to his large contract after he was a dodger and they gave up some high potential minor leaguers for him and price, who isnt even playing this year.

Almost all of those small market teams could spend more money than they do. They're all owned by billionaires.

If the owners of the Rays chose to reinvest in their team they wouldn't play in a dump and they'd actually attract fans.

Too many of the owners just own the team so they can sit on the investment and get a ridiculously high return when they sell the team later.

LOL. Don't care how you spin it, the Dodger$ are the definition of a 'big money team'. They are second in payroll only to the masters of spend- the Yankee$.
Whether it's 'useless' spending or not, it depends on whether or not you expect it to result in championships.

Thing is EVERYONE is going to lose huge money after this shitfest of a year. Saw an interesting take on the overall picture from dude at Daily News. I found it interesting and a bit eye opening. The top money clubs are going to lose big big dollars and the lowest will lose their revenue sharing. It's a little muddled between lost revenue and actual loses but it still paints a pretty grim picture. Bet we see a bunch of one year free agent signing again at relative bargains compared to what the Scott Boras of the world think should be the payout.

Linky : This offseason will be a bloodbath for MLB players
