If the NCAA wants to take care of BYU for their championships, I don't care. However the delayed eligibility clock rule is more of an issue for me. In football two years of maturity can make a huge difference in a player's sophomore through senior years. In the case of Kane we even saw a big difference in basketball. Having the ability to be in a program for a year and find out exactly what you need and then take a two year hiatus without losing any eligibility and then come back is an advantage that BYU and to a lesser extent UU were able to take advantage of a great deal more than any other schools.
It looks like the church has made this rule unnecessary since they lowered the age that kids can go on mission so they can now generally go on mission before ever enrolling. Does anyone know if the NCAA exemption for Missions has now gone away?

While I agree that they should play under the same conditions, those conditions can drastically change even during one day, so not everyone ends up playing under the same conditions anyways. And maybe the weather on Thursday puts them at a disadvantage compared to Sunday. The point is, it's nothing that BYU is trying to gain an advantage from.

I have next to zero knowledge of the Mormon faith or, for that matter, BYU's janitorial or food service systems. It feels like you're trying to bait me into something that will eventually develop into a religious argument. I have no desire for that.
I simply made a statement saying that if concessions can be made without creating issues, who cares? If other religious schools wanted to make similar requests and arrangements can be made, so be it. In turn, if other schools don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with their requests, they don't have to.
Unless they only got military kids or the occasional Mormon who wanted to come to ISU they wouldn't be able to get kids in the program for a year and then get them back with full eligibility after they had matured for a few years. BYU has all but cornered the market on Mormon kids who are religious enough to actually go on a mission.
I must be getting soft in my old age but I just can't get worked up about making reasonable accommodations for people and football entrance songs.
The softball thing doesn't really matter but this is a huge deal if true. Of course it could affect them negatively too... which I hope happens.
Yeah its a shame that none of their players can go to the NFL since they play on Sunday:smile: Seriously though, no big deal. We accommodate every "progressive" thing out there, we can humor the Mormons.
Should the NCAA try to make this accommodation for BYU in basketball for the tournament? I don't remember it ever being an issue.
It reminds me of a guy who called in to CW's radio show who was all upset because Iowa State's tournament game was scheduled in Denver for the same time as we were "hosting" a game at Wells Fargo. He said he was promised that the schedules wouldn't conflict.
Once you start trying to add a few variables, the schedules become almost unmanageable. BYU needs to decide if it wants to be in the NCAA or not.
