2015 NBA Draft Thread [Lottery Tonight @ 7:30]

Where: The actual lottery drawing to determine the first-round order of the 14 non-playoff teams for the June 25 NBA Draft in Brooklyn will take place in a separate room about an hour before ESPN's broadcast.
Who: Select media members, NBA officials and representatives of the participating teams and the accounting firm of Ernst & Young will be in attendance for the drawing. All personnel in the drawing room will be required to relinquish cell phones and any other communication devices until the televised lottery results are announced.
Mechanics: Fourteen ping-pong balls, numbered 1 through 14, will be placed in a lottery machine manufactured by the Smart Play Company, a manufacturer of state lottery machines. Smart Play also weighs, measures and certifies the ping-pong balls prior to the drawing.
Math: There are 1,001 possible combinations when four balls are drawn out of 14, without regard to their order of selection. Before the lottery, 1,000 of those 1,001 combinations will be assigned to the 14 participating lottery teams.
The process: All 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine and they are mixed for 20 seconds; then the first ball is removed. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team assigned that combination will receive the No. 1 pick. The same process is repeated with the same ping-pong balls and lottery machine for the second pick and then again for the third pick.
Limitations: If the same combination comes up more than once, the result is discarded and another four-ball combination is selected. If the one unassigned combination (11-12-13-14) is drawn, the balls are drawn to the top again.
Supervision: The length of time the balls are mixed is monitored by a timekeeper who faces away from the machine and signals the machine operator after the appropriate amount of time has elapsed.
Completion: The random portion of the lottery determines only the first three selections. The remaining first-round draft positions will be determined by inverse order of final 2014-15 regular-season won-loss record.

Potential Losers

Lakers: top 5 protected pick
-- If pick not in the top 5 the pick goes to the 76ers

Heat: top 10 protected pick
-- If pick is not in the top 10 the pick goes to the 76ers

Last year the Celtics had the 4th worst record and ended up with the 6th pick, so if that happens to the Lakers this year they basically tanked this season for nothing since they lose the pick to the sixers lol
 
I'm praying for Philly to get it and the Lakers to drop out of protection. I really want to see that Sixers plan work.

Sixers would probably be better off with 3 than 1 honestly. They don't need another C with Embiid, Nerlens, and Saric already being there. They need Russell or Mudiay and can save some cap space by being at 3 or 4.

It would be funny if they ended up with 1, 6, and 11 though lol

They haven't met the salary floor the last two years, I don't think they really need to worry about cap space at this point. Two years into their tanking project they still don't really know what they have. Noel seems to be a solid starter but certainly not a franchise guy. Embiid and Saric are still unknowns. You would think they have to take a guard or wing this year, but if their looking at everything strictly in terms of what is the best asset, maybe they take another big again.

I do think their plan is extremely interesting to watch though.
 
Lets see how my Orlando boys screw this up.....I like their core but dang Aaron Gordon was there pick last year smh. I just hope they get the 1st pick and get Towns
 
Instead of 1000 ping pong balls, I wish they'd make it more like 14 balls for worst, 13 for 2nd worst ... 1 for last.etc. would help the tanking imo a Lil bit.

Well they did go after several big name guys, but no elite talent is going to want to come play with Kobe. They tried to get Melo after all. I think it's more they just have an incompetent front office right now more so than they were trying to tank.

I doubt Sixers fans would agree with you. Two plus years of bad basketball with no end in sight.

Yeah the last few years of free agency have shown guys are just lining up to play with him. But hey Swaggy P will be there as long as those checks keep clearing.

Yeah but when you can take on huge contracts that other teams want to dump you can get draft picks out of it. Like last year they took on Javale Mcgee's contract for a first round pick from Denver. It's a good way to accumulate draft picks and ensure that your team won't be very good. Which is exactly what they've been doing for the last 2.5 years
