MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

I didn't even list guys like Almora and Soler. That's how stacked the Cubs system is and that's how you get pitching in here. You trade some of these guys for established pitchers and not kids.

Personally, I'm hoping Baez gets traded. I just don't really see him living up to the hype, and that position is officially overcrowded.

Disagree with the thought that we NEED to trade one of Castro, Baez, or Russel. SS is the best position to have "too many" of, any of those guys could play pretty much anywhere else on D besides catcher and be fine. While a trade is entirely possible (Most likely would be Baez, IMO) the Cubs may just want to hold onto all 3

I almost flipped **** when I got the ESPN update about this trade. All it said was that the cubs gave up Smardzija and Hammel for Russell.

The fact that Alcantara is considered our #7 prospects now on MLB.com and is also considered a future All-Star puts weird feelings in places only Topanga and Kelly Kapowski can.

And we can't forget about Eloy Jimenez or Gleyber Torres, two youngsters we got in the international pool last year at the age of 16. At age 17, they're both tearing up the Arizona League, one hitting .429 and the other .325. Small sample size, but if they're considered top 20 prospects in our system now, they'll likely be our top 2 prospects in 3-4 years.

Also if the cubs do look into trading Castro at some point, the return would have to be huge. He's a top 3 offensive shortstop in baseball and has a team friendly contract through 2019 (5 yrs, 44M).

Once Alcantara gets called up, I'd like to Russell promoted to Iowa playing SS with Baez being moved to 2B.

Just some really exciting times coming. Next year is going to be fun, even if the team isn't winning.

I still think either Baez or Bryant moves to a corner outfield spot.

They said when we drafted Bryant that they would probably give him reps there, but he hasn't had a game in the outfield yet.

Baez is a future 3B in my opinion. I think Bryant gets moved to a corner outfield spot with Russell at short and Alcantara at 2nd. I think if anyone is traded that Castro gets moved before the others. The Cubs infield will be very good offensively especially if Schwarber continues mashing as he rises.

In his conference call, Theo said there are no prospect pitchers that can match Russell's offensive impact.

He also said this regarding the infield depth:

Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan · 2h

Theo clears up positions: Javy SS, 2B, 3B or OF. Bryant 3B or RF. Arismendy 2B, SS or OF. Addison SS, 3B or 2B

It appears he expects Baez or Bryant to move to a corner spot. Alcantara is likely in center.
