12/17 Official Coaching Search Thread

I think he just means another day in is another day of info and rumors.

Information- We still have none from the previous hirings. We have rumors but no solid information. Some say Kelly was offered, some say he wasn't. Who else was interviewed? Norvel? Kelly? Brewster? Harbaugh? We don't know for sure

Rumors- Yeah, those work real well. I once had a teacher that told someone something and then had that kid tell the next kid who told the next kid and so forth until the last kid was told. That kid stood up and told the class what he was told... It was nowhere near what the teacher had originally said. That is what rumors are . At best, they are half truths. BTW- We have seen how rumors have turned out just yesterday.

Why are we not mentioning Steve Loney. Did we forget that ISU is this guy's dream job? As a lifelong Cyclone, after Chiz tearing us down, bring back the O-line/Off. Coordinator from '95-'97 and '00-'01 is comforting. He coached the line and offense that saw two spectacular seasons with Troy Davis in the backfield. Loney played here, coached under McCarney, loves Ames, loves the University, and knows how to coach a line. With some headcoaching experience (albeit not great). He's been in the NFL and has connections there which can help recruiting. Doesn't the guy who's fairly qualified and holds ISU as his "DREAM JOB" deserve at least a phone call?

Yes, Steve, we know you want the job but joining a message board to tell us just seems, well, too needy.

I do NOT want Mark Farley... god.. talk about settling for the closest, easiest thing... I DO NOT want to be UNI South...

That is an issue I think. Even if he was a better candidate it would start to look like our only option was to poach unwanted guys from smaller in state schools.

Steve Loney damaged his potential by taking the Drake job and not succeeding. He isn't a "Wow" hire, and ticket sales would drop drastically. No one knows if he can win, as we all know the Rams don't, and there O-line sure sucks.

I just feel that there is better options available. If he got the job, I would be very indifferent... where as I'd prefer to get excited.

I'm not for Steve Loney being our next head coach, but I wouldn't characterize his one year at Drake as unsuccessful.

Didn't Drake win 9 or 10 games that year? He said he was only going to be there 1 year.

Pollard mentioned during his press conference he is going to find the best coach - while ensuring that it makes the fans happy because they are the ones buying tickets and donating. That is why he let Mac go, because no one was buying tickets anymore. He will not hire Loney as a HC and Farely, because they will not sell tickets.

Maybe it was, but most people HATED his offenses for the majority of his first stint here at Iowa State. But yet fans seem to have forgotten that and are now clamoring for him to come back and head coach us - I don't think so.

My "hell nos" right now are Farley and Loney, and I'm a little wary of coordinators of any ilk right now, although I do find Strong to be an interesting possibility (although I'm wary of him too).

Otherwise, the door's open IMO.

According to his Wikipedia bio, he coached there in 2007 and had a 6-5 record.

What would you consider successful if 6-5, with none of your own players, is unsuccessful? You're going to be pretty tough to please at ISU. Better turn in your season tickets now.

My guess is that I would rule either farley/loney.

why would Jaime need to use/consult a search firm in the ATL for one of those two?

And to address your, "pretty tough to please" opinion.... All I want is a coach who can come in, keep ticket sales high, and win 6 ball games a year at a MAJOR BCS school... not Drake. I have faith in Pollard. If he thinks Loney is the guy, then he must be.
